2. Me in Thirty Seconds
I am a self-motivated, very disciplined salesman with a high-spirited
nature, and a proven sales record. I am very gifted in interpersonal
communication and in organization. I have a great desire in continuing to
have a very successful career in sales and I want to continue to push
myself to becoming the very best I can.
3. What matters most to me
and why?
Concerning failure, NBA super star Michael
Jordan, once said, “…I've missed more than
nine thousand shots in my career. I've lost
almost three hundred games. Twenty six
times, I've been trusted to take the game
winning shot and missed. I've failed over and
over and over again in my life. And that is
why I succeed…” I like this quote because it
talks about how important it is that we never
give up in life; I equate hard work with this. I
have been grateful in life to have a father that
taught me this principle in life. Hard work
involves pushing yourself to be better and
better each day. Throughout life there could
have been many times where I could have
given up but made the decision to keeping
working hard. The best example of this would
be my career in alarms sales. My first
summer was nothing short of a complete
nightmare. I didn’t sell one alarm until my
third week out. I was told that it would be
normal for people not to sell until then. Not
only did it take me awhile for me to pick up
selling but my team also got kicked out of the
greater Boston area for not being properly
licensed and thus had to move to NYC. By
then I had a total of twenty-five sales and it
took me several weeks to even get five
additional. I ended up leaving for the summer
in mid July completely broke. I decided to go
out the next summer and I worked even
harder than I did my first summer; I tripled
the amount of sales. The summer after I
managed my own team. I truly believe that I
could not have been successful if it wasn’t for
my desire to work hard in everything I do.

5. Key Facts
• A reputable brand name is important to marketing success in the competitive
branded pharmaceutical business. Drug companies use several criteria in selecting
a brand name, including how easy it is to remember and any subliminal
connotation of the drug.
• The search for blockbuster drugs with high revenue potential has prompted
companies to incur high R&D costs. In an effort to discover and bring to market
innovative products that address unmet medical needs, substantial investments
are made in R&D.
• As the pharmaceutical industry becomes increasingly global, it is essential for
industry firms to have access to foreign markets and manufacturing facilities to
help control costs and boost sales.
• The development of new pharmaceuticals must address unmet needs of the
population. This is particularly true in biologics, which develop immunizations and
vaccines.

8. Why do you want to study
business and why at
BYU‐Idaho?
Brigham Young University-Idaho is becoming an institution that will be known for not only their ability to
provide an outstanding education, but for their business department. This is partially because of President
Clark’s experience in business at Harvard Business College. I once heard that President Clark is structuring the
undergrad program to look similar to Harvard’s. I believe that President Clark is doing a great job with the
program. This among other reasons has encouraged me to switch my major from elementary education to
business. Another reason why I personally want to study business is because I have been heavily involved
with the summer sales program, which has changed my mindset on life. I learned the ‘in’s and out’s’ of sales
and what it takes to be successful. This changed my thinking and has enabled me to become and think more
like a businessman every day. I love the interaction that business creates with people and I think that my
personality will help me be successful in business. The second reason why I want to study business is for my
family. I am recently married and my wife and I have had discussions about family size. I know that if I were to
continue to study elementary education that I would struggle to provide for my family. While this may not be
true, I personally feel that if I study business that I will have a better chance of being able to provide for my
family so they may never want the needs in life. I believe that the business program at Brigham Young
University- Idaho will prepare me to be successful in both my marriage but also in my career in sales.
