9 shot analysis
1. 9 frame analysis of the hitchhiker scene in
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
2. The first shot I picked out was this medium close
up of the van’s driver. The lighting is light because
of the natural light outside. The man looks puzzled
as he is asking whether they should pick up the
hitchhiker.
3. This shot is then used to show the discussion
between the others in the van. The girl is at the front
of the shot and has high key lighting on her as she is
being sympathetic towards the hitchhiker. The large
curly haired man has low key lighting as he is being
negative about the hitchhiker
4. This extreme long shot of the van and the hitchhiker
running next to it is used to show that the group are
isolated and could potentially be in some kind of danger
5. This shot shows the discomfort of the group as they
are uneasy with the hitchhiker in their van. Low key
lighting still surrounds the large curly haired member
of the group as he still suspects the hitchhiker.
6. This close up of the man highlights his strange behavior, but the
high key lighting makes him seem genuine even if he is strange.
7. The low key lighting surrounding this character
further increases our understanding of his
suspicion of the hitchhiker. This character often
openly insults the hitchhiker and isn’t afraid to let
people know what he thinks.
8. This shot now shows that the hitchhiker is stranger
than originally anticipated.
9. He later tries to cut the large curly haired character
with his knife. The medium shot lets us see the full
act and the determination on the hitchhikers face.
There is then a match on action after this as the
knife cuts through the other characters skin.
10. The hitchhiker then runs out of the van, then after the van,
kicking it a number of times. The long shot here shows his
real intensions as he continuously kicks the car.
