12. This app is BETTER THAN THE BEST and has
CHANGED MY LIFE. Every day I am thankful for this
logistics-superhero & sanity preserver! I don’t miss any of
my pills, now. Gone are the overwhelming hermit days of
20+ pill bottles dictating my schedule & social life. I
recommend MediSafe to all my family members, close
friends, fellow patients, and the numerous doctors I see.
MediSafe is, hands down, the most useful app I have
EVER used.”

MEDISAFE MANIFESTO
Editor's Notes
April Fool’s
Really wanted to go yesterday and pull an April Fool’s joke – start talking about adherence to narcotics but oh well
Consistency but for healthcare
Consistency in UI across apps, but also important to understand the unique needs for healthcare, putting ourselves in patient’s shoes (their frustrations, their state of mind) as well as their expanding role in HC
Purpose-built
design and technology (holistic approach considering all key stakeholders in care continuum , UI and cloud-synced platform that is device/tech agnostic
Build around the core
Holistic approach
Stressful, difficult to cope
Difficult to get in touch with doctor/ care team
I’m excited to share MediSafe’s new brand with you – other than our internal team, our Board, and of course our branding agency, you’re the first to see it
I know many of you didn’t know what our “old” brand looked like
Sharing anyway – because it will set the tone for the rest of the presentation
New brand tone and style is one of inspiration and human connection.
Patient is at the core
We want to put users at ease and give confidence that we are their partner in making manageable what was previously stressful and frustrating…and often overwhelming
With the logo we sought a more modern, cleaner and simpler. All kinds of symbolism but won’t get into that right now
Put you at ease, peace of mind, back on top, in control of your health
Now let me share with you how we got here
Humbling beginning – inspirational story
Yochanan (Jon)
Accidental overdose
Remind ourselves how big a problem this really is
Annual figures
All constituents in multi-sided model aligned to help solve
Most important is impact on patient care
Too many apps not targeting people who are sick – already motivated to monitor/track and improve heatlh.
Targeting chronic pts – 5 to 9 meds a day, 75% of healthcare costs, 5x higher than non-chronic
Dealing with procedures / readmissions – would much prefer to be in comfort of their own home not to mention avoiding progression of their condition and a better life expectancy
Caregiver (MedFriend) was integral From Day 1 – support system, and a back up
Aging population
65mm caregivers in the US
Informal caregiving = 450B
Some conditions / therapeutic areas, caregiver is critically important (e.g. depression)
We have seen higher adherence with caregiver involvement
Focus on consumer app – it’s the most critical
Beyond functional – virtual pillbox (differentiator) – really sought to understand the use case/context of a chronic patient (5 – 9 daily meds), mirroring physical environment to digital – welcoming, feels familiar, puts patient at ease, resembles environment/surrounding
Can still have UI consistency with other mobile apps
Personalization – the feed
Haven’t seen user stories like this – people who have very little wanting to donate, an experienced developer taking 10 meds increasing adherence from 50 – 90% offering to write free code
Just launched – show adherence and biofeedback on the same graph
Positive reinforcement needed early and often. Intrinsic – about improving your health.
Strong and fairly quick correlation between taking meds and improving biometrics like BP and glucose levels. Human psyche/behavior – you need encouragement early and often to sustain it and be motivated to take the next step. Keep up adherence, take on other healthy lifestyle changes
Up next - Doctor/care team important – patient’s trusted advisor
Mindset is changing
Self-serving to serving the patient
Look what happened in just one year
#4 - #1
#5 - #3
Care coordination – Rekindle relationship between patient/caregiver and physician. Include physician/staff on platform and create direct channels. Patient can then share adherence/biometric graphs with care team
Give patients control over what they want to share, we won’t provide medical advice, leave that to the trusted advisor (contraindications).
Will be on front end of curve – support newest consumer devices, experiment with gestures – make it easier to remember and interact
Already on Android Wear – early results show adherence goes up.
I have a prize for the first person who can tell me what other wearable MediSafe will be support from the day it goes on Sale.
Happy Pills
Using the data to personalize / add value – “you forgot the last 3 mondays” “users taking Med X are usually more adherent on Med Y than Med Z”
Declaration of purpose and intent – what we within MediSafe use as our guiding light to builld the best medication management app possible for patients.
