Sports card collections
1. Do you collect sports cards? I do, and I can tell you that this is the time to
purchase whatever you like within your spending limit. I will showcase right here
some of the absolute gems of the sports cards world. Now these cards are out of
reach for many people, but some may be very obtainable and you will see that
anyone can build a nice sports card collection with very little money. I did, and my
collection grew and grew and grew…
2. The Mac-Daddy of
them all. The 1986
Fleer Michael Jordan
rookie card, raw
prices of this card
start about $400.00,
graded versions $700-
$8000!
Sports card collections sustained a
new twist some 15 years ago with the
grading craze. No one thought that
grading would stick. One of the most
bizarre grading cards and grading
card sales of all time, was the 1990
Fleer Michael Jordan PSA 10, which
sold some 13 years ago for a mind
blowing $1000.00 on eBay. The card
now sells for a miniscule $70.00. AH,
the do’s and don’ts of the sports card
collecting world. A bad investment to
say the least, caught up in the early
stages of grading.
3. Who else made sports cards back then?
Many companies made
sports card and they were
issued to collectors for
simply purchasing their
products. One of the
neatest ideas ever!
Kellogg’s 3-D cards
Post Cereal cards
Nabisco cards
General Mills cards and
other promotions
4. The 1964 Topps coins,
and the 1972 Topps
Candy lids. This
showed that Topps
was always willing to
push the limit with
collections and
collectors.
The 1972 Topps Candy lids also get
graded just like the Topps coins.
These collectibles can fetch a pretty
penny as well as conventional sports
cards. In fact these are also hard to
find, but they can be found separately
on auctions in different sites that host
baseball card auctions. A sealed
1972 Topps candy lid can sell for
upwards of about $275.00 and that
brings only (1) candy lid. Weigh that
over the option of paying about
$300.00 for the Nolan Ryan which is
the most sought after lid.
5. The baseball card gems of all the
modern day collection!
The 1993 U.D. SP Derek Jeter
The 1994 U.D. SP Alex Rodriguez
The 2001 Bowman Chrome Albert Pujols
Autograph
6. The sports card industry has seen many different innovations, some of
the greatest sports cards ever continually change hands on auction
sites like eBay, Beckett auctions, and some of the higher auction sites
like Christy’s, Masterson, and many others.
If you currently collect sports cards, then I know you appreciate the fact
that this is no longer for kids, it has become a huge business. But there
are many niches of the collection world, that you can fit any budget into.
Keep collecting!!!
