Punch tip diameters are engineered using a tight tolerance
and critical for tablet quality and press operation.
Tool maintenance manuals and most SOPs refer to a
measuring instrument called a micrometer to
inspect and manage this critical dimension…

• It measure the largest diameter between the anvils
• Can not measure wear below the tip plane
However, although the micrometer is acceptable
for checking new punches, it can not measure
actual punch tip wear responsible for poor
tablet quality.
