This document discusses different types of diagrams that can be used for various purposes including decision trees, cause and effect diagrams, mind maps, and landscaping projects. It also lists the classroom layout and technology that includes a teacher desk, grouped student desks, dry erase boards, presentation boards, a SmartBoard, projector, student computers. The landscaping section notes factors to consider like total area, number of people, aesthetics, sizing, shapes, and space usage.
This is my ideal classroom, or rather the classroom that I would love to have if there were no budget concerns. All of the technology that I could wish for is included with two different sections in the classroom, whenever I would change my focus from teaching without computers and teaching with computers. I’d like the students to be grouped together and wish to never have more than 24 students, given the choice. I would have a lot of different surfaces to write on and a lot of different surfaces to display work on. Ideally, I would not want to sit much at my desk when in classroom, but even still a nice desk would be great to have for my prep time.
Deciding on what type of presentation technology can be fairly difficult, so in this decision tree I included the possible benefits and disadvantages of three different levels of presentation technology. I included the pictures, so that there is a visual representation of the different kinds of presentation technology. Then I gave reasons why to choose and why not to choose it, to be presented to the person who makes the decisions. I tried not to be biased but for some there is just not as much advantage as others, and the same with the disadvantages. It is meant to be persuasive, to give all of the facts, or as much as I could include, to someone deciding on what type of technology to include.
Cause and Effect diagrams can be used for many different things within a school, I simply chose something that was close to me. My brother is failing, so I decided to go through and see how his actions and work are causing him to fail in a class. Given an effect, I was able to come up with several different causes, as well as representations of those causes that can be observed. Cause and effect diagrams are a great way to organize observations as to causes of an overall end.
Mind Maps are a way to organize your thoughts when confronted with an overall topic. I decided to do a mind map on applications of a certain math topic, just because applications are sometimes the least talked about part of a math class. So, I chose a topic not many students know about and then five careers, or possible careers, that use the main topic. Then, to end the map, I included how, in that career, the main topic was used. I think that this would make for a great project, even if it was only an introduction to a topic, to research for a mind map such as this.
I created this landscape design as a sort of example as a project that students could do, keeping certain things in mind. At first, I made it in the mind of my ideal house and backyard, including a pool and a large plot, but then I considered what it could be used for in the classroom. Proportions are important, keeping everything of the proper proportion for a project like this, and there are many geometric shapes included in the graphic. I figured, then, that this would be a great project, not as detailed, for a geometry student.
I am not truly close with most of my family, and so when I need to make a family tree I truly have difficult. I decided, then, to make a tree including my close family, as well as my close school family, the people in my life that I spend the most time worrying about. Knowing one’s family tree is important, it helps you know where you come from, but at the same time it can be fairly difficult to make. One such as this, is easy because it is based on who I love, as I am not close to my family who are not included here.
