Start By:
a. Remove the piston pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Piston Pump - Remove".
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the
component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal
mechanism.

1. Remove solenoid assembly (1A) and tube assembly (1B).
2. Remove tube assembly (3). Remove bolts (1) and pressure and flow compensator valve (2).

Note: Mark the position of valve (5) for assembly purposes.
3. Remove O-ring seals (4) and valve (5).
4. Remove orifice (6).
5. Remove adapter assembly (7) and connector (8). Remove the seals from adapter assembly
(7) and connector (8).

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a
released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to
release the spring force.
Note: Record Dimension (X) and Dimension (Y) for assembly purposes. The dimension is
from the top of the nuts to the top of the screws.
6. Remove valve assembly (9).
7. Remove nut (17), plug (16), screw (15), and seat (14). Remove springs (13) and (12).
Remove retainer (11) and stem (10). Remove seal (18) and seal (19).

8. Remove valve assembly (20).
9. Remove nut (28), plug (27), screw (26), and seat (25). Remove springs (24) and (23).
Remove retainer (22) and stem (21). Remove seal (29) and seal (30).

10. Remove plugs (31) and (32). Remove the seals from plugs (31) and (32).
11. Remove bolts (33) and power compensator valve (34).
12. Remove plug (35), O-ring seal (36), and fitting (37).

13. Remove O-ring seal (38) and cap (39).
14. Use Steps 15 and 16 in order to disassemble power compensator valve (34).

15. Remove nut (51) and adjuster (49). Remove plug (50) from adjuster (49). Remove O-ring
seal (48), spring (47), and retainer (46).
16. Remove plug (40). Remove O-ring seal (41) from plug (40). Remove spring (42), retainer
(43), piston (44), and stem (45).
17. Remove bolt (53), carrier (52), and pin (54).
Personal injury can result from parts under high spring pressure.

Spring force can cause parts to come off suddenly. Contact your
Caterpillar dealer for disassembly instructions before removing any
parts.
Note: Mark the position of head assembly (56) to aid in installation.
18. Remove bolts (55) and head assembly (56).
19. Remove O-ring seal (57) and port plate (58).
20. Remove piston (59) and spacer (60).

21. Remove plunger (61) and spring (62).
22. Remove cylinder (63) and guide (64).
23. Remove pin (65).

24. Use Tooling (A) in order to remove bearing cup (66).
25. Remove O-ring seal (67) and bearing cone (68).
26. Remove spacer (69).

27. Remove rotating group (70).
28. Remove piston assemblies (71) and plate (72).
29. Remove bearing (73).

Personal injury can result from parts under high spring pressure.
Spring force can cause parts to come off suddenly. Contact your
Caterpillar dealer for disassembly instructions before removing any
parts.
30. Use a suitable press and Tooling (B) in order to compress the spring. Use Tooling (C) in
order to remove retaining ring (74).
31. Remove spring (76) and seat (75).

32. Remove pins (77).
33. Remove swashplate assembly (78).
34. Remove bolt (79) and carrier (80).

35. Remove bearing races (81) and (82).

37. Use a suitable press and Tooling (D) in order to remove bearing cone (84) from shaft (83).

38. Use Tooling (E) in order to remove bearing cup (85).
39. Remove seal (86).
40. Use Tooling (F) in order to remove retaining ring (87).
