Mt 17:20 So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
3. A Little Man With A Lot of Faith!
Mt 17:20 So Jesus said to them, "Because of your
unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have
faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this
mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will
move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
Lk 17:6 So the Lord said, "If you have faith as a
mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree,
'Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the
sea,' and it would obey you.

6. I. The Sinner!
• This has always been one of my favorite
stories! Maybe it’s because I like the song!
• Lk 19:1-2 Then Jesus entered and passed
through Jericho. Now behold, there was a
man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax
collector, and he was rich. (cf. Lk. 18:10)
–“Chief tax collector!” He is a Jew working for
the Roman government, everyone hates him!
7. They would become rich by abusing
their power!
• Lk 3:12-13 Then tax collectors also came to be
baptized, and said to him, "Teacher, what shall
we do?" And he said to them, "Collect no more
than what is appointed for you.“
• Mt 9:11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they
said to His disciples, "Why does your Teacher
eat with tax collectors and sinners?“ (cf. Mt.
11:19)
8. II. The Seeker!
• Lk 19:3-4 And he sought to see who Jesus
was, but could not because of the crowd, for
he was of short stature. So he ran ahead and
climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him,
for He was going to pass that way.
• It is the sinner, who sees his/her need for a
Savior and seeks!
9. Our we a seeker?
• Jer 29:11-13 For I know the plans I have for
you, says the LORD, plans for welfare and not
for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then
you will call upon me and come and pray to
me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and
find me; when you seek me with all your heart.
• Am 5:4 For thus says the LORD to the house of
Israel: “Seek me and live!”
10. “He sought/was seeking!” Lk. 19:3
• This indicates that he was willing to put forth
necessary effort! This is further seen by his
actions!
–He ran ahead! He understood the urgency!
–He climbed a tree! Belief changes behavior!
• Real faith works! (Js. 2:14ff)
• So, what is standing between us and
Jesus? What will we do about it?
11. III. The Saved!
• Lk 19:5-7 And when Jesus came to the
place, He looked up and said to him,
"Zacchaeus, make haste and come down; for
I must stay at your house today." So he
made haste and came down, and received
Him joyfully. And when they saw it they all
murmured, "He has gone in to be the guest
of a man who is a sinner."
12. Unbelievable Response!
• Lk 19:8-10 Then Zacchaeus stood and said to
the Lord, "Look, Lord, I give half of my goods
to the poor; and if I have taken anything from
anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold."
And Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has
come to this house, because he also is a son of
Abraham; "for the Son of Man has come to
seek and to save that which was lost."
13. All are welcomed, who will come!
• Will you come? All are sinners, who need to
seek the Savior! Are we seeking Him, have
we been saved?
• Zacchaeus overcame the hurdles that stood
between him and the Savior, he was willing
to do whatever it takes to come before
Jesus!
14. Conclusion:
• There is indeed a lot we can learn from this
story and “a little man with a lot of faith!” Do
we have this kind of faith?
– Mt 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and
you will find; knock, and it will be opened to
you:
–Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say,
"Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!"
And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires,
let him take the water of life freely.
