I learned that I help others best when I help myself first. In this talk I describe various strategies and techniques for doing exactly that. Some of these are programming techniques, some are techniques for organizing my work, and some are techniques for "being a better person", whatever *that* means. Here I describe practical approaches for helping others without completely destroying myself in the process. I had to learn all this "the hard way".
