Preamble:
Barely
Repeatable
Business
Processes
(BRP)
versus
ERP

Any
 kind
 of
 work
 in
 any
 kind
 of
 organisaVon
 can
 be
 seen
 as
 processes:
 “Sequence
 of

interdependent
 and
 linked
 procedures
 which,
 at
 every
 stage,
 consume
 one
 or

m o r e
 r e s o u r c e s
 ( e m p l o y e e
 V m e ,
 e n e r g y ,
 m a c h i n e s ,
 m o n e y )
 t o

convert
inputs
(data,
material,
parts,
etc.)
into
outputs.
These
outputs
then
serve
as
inputs
for

the
next
stage
unVl
a
known
goal
or
end
result
is
reached.”1

Such
processes,
usually
named
workflows
when
people
are
involved,
can
be
split
into
two
types:

        – ERP
(Easily
Repeatable
Processes)
are
predictable,
structured
processes,
producVon,

              linear
processes.
This
is
a
type
of
process
where
only
about
30%2
of
the
world’s
GDP

              happens.3

        – BRP
 (Barely
 Repeatable
 Processes)
 are
 unpredictable,
 knowledge
 worker,

              unstructured
processes,
 pracVces,
 ad‐hoc
 BRP
 is
the
type
of
 process
where
about

              60%
of
worldwide
value
creaVon
(GDP)
happens.4

              A
process,
being
a
sequence
of
acVviVes,
requires
a
“framework”,
like
water
requires

              a
riverbed,
a
pipeline
or
at
least
a
line
of
people
passing
buckets
to
be
useful.

"60%

its

is
the

From
Oracle
staVng
that
"20%

worldwide

in
projects".
Projects
are
usually
defined
as
the

does
not
include
those
which

Global
Compact
– ERP
Frameworks
oqen
take
a
physical
form;
producVon
lines
are
typical,
where
the

              work
order,
 the
informaVon
and
the
actual
work
interface
is
delivered
at
the
right

              Vme,
such
as
a
car
without
doors
on
an
assembly
 line.
Non‐physical
frameworks
are

              well
covered
by
 mature
IT
soluVons
like
ERP,
HRM,
SCM,
BPM
and
so
forth,
handling

              a
predictable
workflow
such
as
paying
salaries
at
end
of
month
or
insurance
claims

              with
the
help
of
a
set
of
predictable
business
rules.

        – BRP
 Frameworks
 on
the
other
 hand
are
much
less
developed
and
consists
almost

              exclusively
of
tools
to
support
manual
processes.
Examples
are
spreadsheets
used
to

              update
project
progress,
wikis
to
share
documents
for
collaboraVon,
CRM
and
issue/
              bug
handling
systems
used
in
creaVve
ways
for
Case
Management,
etc.

        – The
 commonality
 is
that
 none
 have
 proper
 process
 automaVon.
 In
 addiVon
 the

              cornerstone
of
the
current
 BRP
 framework
 is
the
organisaVonal
hierarchy
 with
its

              components
such
as
meeVngs,
budgets,
deadlines
and
business
rules.

The
result
of
the
following
situaGon
is
very
interesGng:

All
research
reviewed
shows
that
between
55%
and
75%
of
resource
use
(Vme)
in
BRPs
is
spent

on
 process
work
to
 make
the
process
happen
at
 all,
 leaving
 on
average
only
 about
 1/3rd
 of

resource
use
spent
on
actual
value
creaVon
for
the
customer.

In
other
words,
taking
the
64%
and
65%
together,
about
40%
of
the
world’s
resources
are
spent

on
 making
 the
workflow
 happen
and
not
 on
 value
creaVon.
 Turned
 the
other
 way
 it
 means

there
is
about
a
70%
increase
in
worldwide
GDP
to
be
found,
if
the
process
part
of
BRPs
could

be
automated.

In
fact,
 when
Ford
automated
the
process
part
of
the
ERP
 with
his
first
assembly
 line
in
1913,

without
changing
the
way
the
actual
work
happened
(same
doors
to
screw
on,
using
same
tools

and
same
movements),
he
found
that
he
could
increase
producVon
7.8
Vmes 5
within
one
year

without
increasing
manpower.

BRP
can
therefore
be
defined
as
follows:

A

 acGvity
 or
sequence
 of
 acGviGes
 iniGated

 an

 or
a

 with

where
the
sequence
of
acGviGes
are
directed
 by
 human
knowledge
to
act

according
to
the
current
situaGon
and
related
circumstances.

We
experience
a
situaVon
such
as
the
following
every
 day:
An
MD
studying
the
x
 ray
 cannot

choose
the
next
step
before
he
has
done
his
“study
x

task.

 No

unVl
all

Current

are
based
on
 an
architecture
and
principle
where
they

have
modelled
the
exisVng
 frameworks
and
as
cannot
 move
beyond
the
current
 manual
BRP

approach
as
a
result.

CollaboraGon:

Current
IT
efforts
concentrated
towards
relieving
the
BRP
issues
are
all
focused
on
the
current

popular
term
of
“CollaboraVon”.

In
general,
these
are
based
on
making
documents
and
informaVon
available
to
all
parVcipants,

then
tagging
or
otherwise
marking
specific
documents
as
“tasks”
and
with
“assignees”
‐
all
in
a

non‐process
way,
more
like
a
common
desktop
to
make
collaboraVon
easier.

The
new
BRP
soluVon
from
WEG
and
the
architecture
behind
it
is
based
on

    · Yielding

WEG
and

as
they
relate
to
the
Ten

of
the

Global
As
ERPs
are
well
structured,
the
results
are
also
well
documented
and
therefore
any
 required

compliance
will
be
relaVvely
easy
to
ensure.

The
real
problems
arise
from
the
current
methods
used
to
register
and
document
BRP
acVviVes

and
results,
almost
exclusively
by
reporVng
in
areas,
the
results
are
consequently
 only
as
good

(or
bad)
as
the
reporter
chooses
to
be
without
any
path
to
deeper
insight
by
any
outside
body.

Rules
and
regulaVons
are
only
as
good
(or
bad)
as
the
underlying
systems
that
will
capture
the

on‐going
 business
 and
 transacVons.
 WEG’s
 BRP
 system
 captures
 all
 on‐going
 business
 and

transacVons
 in
 the
 process
 itself.
 When
 a
 task
 has
 been
 assigned
 and
 the
 task
 has
 been

completed
who,
what
and
when
are
registered
in
an
unalterable
way,
and
the
full
context
is
also

captured.
 It
 is
not
 possible
to
 alter
 data
once
it
 has
been
 registered,
 hence,
 by
 definiVon
all

processes
and
data
are
stored
infinitely
 “as
is”
 and
therefore,
the
person
creaVng
the
data
is

accountable
for
his
or
her
acVons.

Ethics
are
 self‐evident,
 if
 complete
transparency
 combined
 with
 rules
 and
 guidelines
 exists.

When
the
chance
of
gexng
caught
is
100%,
ethics
become
evident.
This
mechanism
is
built
into

the
WEG
 BRP
 architecture
while
the
guidelines
are
given
 by
 the
Ten
 Principles
of
the
Global

Compact.

As

 the

of
transparency
 and
accountability,
 in

fact,
 promotes
 wrongful
 behaviour,
 including
 corrupVon,
 or
 reflected
 in
 modern
 economic

theory,
greatly
increases
the
risk
of
moral
hazard
and
the
costs
associated
herewith.

In
other
words:
Full
capture
of
all
on‐going
processes
and
transacVons
and
the
inability
 to
alter

the
facts
captured
in‐process
will
in
effect
 eliminate
corrupVon.
This
would,
 of
course,
require

that
all
acVviVes
are
handled
by
a
process
based
system
like
WEG’s
BRP
soluVon.

Summary:

Most
 of
 the
UN’s
acVviVes
are
 BRPs,
 in
 parVcular
 handling
 of
unforeseen
situaVons
like
any

crisis
or
disaster.

WEG’s

BRP
 approach
 provides
 the
 necessary
 full
 transparency,
 accountability
 and
 untouchable

historical
records.
Given
a
set
of
rules
combined
with
a
pracVcal
implementaVon
of
these
three

concepts,
ethics
will
be
a
natural
result.

End
Poverty
and
Hunger:

The
unbalanced
world
in
which
the
majority
of
the
world’s
resources
and
assets
are
owned
by
a

very
small
percentage
of
the
world’s
populaVon
is
one
of
the
major
contributors
to
poverty
and

hunger.
 Typically,
 market
 errors
exist
 in
those
countries,
 since
there
is
an
 obvious
consumer

demand
for
products
(food,
clean
water,
basic
consumer
goods,
educaVon,
etc)
but
a
grotesque

undersupply
to
fulfill
the
demand.

In
this
case,
WEG
supplies
its
BRP
based
pla`orm,
which
provides
direct
and
immediate
insight

in
 needs
related
 to
poverty
 and
 hunger
 and
 those
needs
 can
 be
 fulfilled
 through
the
 WEG

pla`orm
by
 individuals,
 organizaVons
such
as
corporaVons

NGO’s,
governments,
 and
the

 The

 and

with
 those
 in

or
 the

directly
related
to

therefore
will

significantly
 decrease

 and
 greatly
 increase
 the
 ability
 to

where
it
is
most
needed,
since

WEG’s
 pla`orm
 provides
 the
 necessary
 transparency

 throughout
 the

collaboraVon

Universal
EducaGon:

The

 in
 poorer

 results
 in
 a

 disadvantage
 in

 in
the

and
opportuniVes

EducaVon
is

to

Gender
Equality:

WEG’s
BRP
 pla`orm
does
not
 discriminate
gender,
 sexuality,
religious
belief,
race,
 or
anything

else.
In
fact,
the
EEG
fundamental
philosophy
is
that
each
individual
on
planet
Earth
by
 him
or

herself
is
a
tremendous
resource,
 which
deserves
to
have
opportuniVes
to

for

the

WEG’s
BRP

is
therefore
completely
“neutral”
and
available
to
anyone,
anywhere

in
the
world,
for
free,
and
with
equal
rights
and
opportunity,
regardless
of
gender.

Child
Health:

It
is
WEG’s
opinion
that
in
a
world
as
rich
and
developed
as
is
the
case
today,
at
least
humanity

should
 be
 able
 to
 come
together
 and
 solve
all
 problems
 related
 to
 child
 health.
 A
 child
 is

innocent
and
only
 deserves
the
best
possible
care
and
opportunity
 in
life.
Fundamentally,
child

health
 is
crucial
 to
 a
 child’s
 ability
 to
 have
 a
 chance
 in
 life.
 WEG
 is
 a
 contributor
 to
 the

promoVon
of
 child
health
and
 will
work
diligently
 to
unite
the
world
and
use
the
WEG

pla`orm
to
fulfill
needs
related

there

 because

those
countries
and
individuals
are
too

to
pay
the
market

the

for

the

WEG
will

it
a

 itself
to

 through
 the

WEG’s

 the

AcVng

therefore
it

WEG’s

10:

Businesses
should
work
against
corrupVon
in
all
its
forms,
including
extorVon
and
 bribery.
 WEG’s
alignment: CorrupVon
 is
 most
 likely
 to
 happen
 when
 there
 is
 no
 process
 in
 place,
 which
 captures
 everything
 within
 the
 process
 itself,
 stores
 it
 forever
 and
 holds
 everyone
 accountable
 for
 everything
 that
 is
happening
 in
the
process
itself.
Lack
of
transparency
 and
accountability,
 in
 fact,
 promotes
 wrongful
 behaviour,
 including
 corrupVon,
 or
 reflected
 in
 modern
 economic
 theory,
greatly
increases
the
risk
of
moral
hazard
and
the
costs
associated
herewith. In
other

Full
capture
of
all
on‐going
processes
and
transacVons
and
the
inability
 to
alter
 the
facts
captured
in‐process
will
in
effect
 eliminate
corrupVon.
This
would,
 of
course,
require
 that
all
acVviVes
are
handled
by
a
process
based
system
like
WEG’s
BRP
soluVon. Summary: Most
 of
 the
UN’s

 BRPs,

like
any
 crisis
or
disaster. WEG’s
 BRP
 approach
 provides
 the
 necessary
 full

 accountability
 and
 untouchable
 historical
records.
Given
a
set
of
rules
combined
with
a

ethics
will
be
