Travel to Curitiba
1. Holiday in Curitiba: script to discover the city and its history
Those on holiday in Curitiba, whether tourist or resident, often faced with this question:
what different program do? The state capital has several tourist attractions such as Wire
Opera House, Botanical Gardens, and Eye of the Museum, but sometimes these scripts more "
known" may already be a bit "hit" and then it's time to reinvent and go in search of new o
ptions. For those who like history, gastronomy, culture and leisure the Historical Center
is a great option.
"The Curitiba's Old Town is one of the most charming areas of the city and offers a variet
y of great programs. In addition to many establishments offering gastronomy, leisure, serv
ices and products, we also have museums, historic houses, churches, squares and lots of hi
story to tell, "says Anna Vargas, president of the Business Network of the region, an asso
ciation that seeks to promote the region.
A little of history
Also called history and industry popularly known as the Order of the square, the historic
center of the town is the beginning of the second plateau of Paraná, which was officially
founded the town of Our Lady of Luz dos Pinhais in 1693. This city region comprises the C
urrent Quarter San Francisco and part of Curitiba Center.
Historical roadmap
As its name suggests, the area is steeped in history. By walking through the Old Town stre
ets, you can see buildings from other centuries, some functioning as museums, other commer
cial. Below is a suggested itinerary for a nice walk around the area.
Our itinerary starts in the Paranaense Museum, the first museum of Paraná and the third o
f Brazil. It was inaugurated on September 25, 1876, in Largo da Fonte, today Zacarias Squa
re. Then he held six seats and is currently in San Francisco Palace. Besides being part of
the history of Curitiba, the site has a Paraná story pavilion that makes the "timeline"
since prehistory, 8000 years before the present era, until the early twentieth century, wi
th the integration of immigrants to our state. Its collection now has more than 400,000 it
ems.
Leaving the Paranaense Museum, the Kellers Street, if you have time, it's worth taking a d
2. Returning (literally), return to Paranaense Museum, or if you have not gone to the mosque,
just exit the Museum and in front of you sees the João Cândido Square. Located in one o
f the highest points in the city, shows signs of the beginnings of Curitiba with the walls
of an unfinished church dedicated to St. Francis of Paula and started in the early ninete
enth century. The place is known porRuínas of San Francisco. In it are the Belvedere, old
building in art nouveau style, where they meet the curitibanas intellectuals and soon mus
t undergo restoration.
Going against the direction of the cars by the Kellers Street, I walk a few meters, look t
o your left oPalácio Garibaldi. Construction began in 1887, has a facade with neoclassica
l style. The site already hosted the Regional Electoral Court and Palace of Justice. In 19
88, he was listed by the Paraná Historical and Artistic Heritage and today hosts many eve
nts.
After meeting some places, it may be time to take a bite. The area there are restaurants f
or every taste. Especially the Arab East, which is open from 11 am and offers direct meal
until 23h (Tuesday to Saturday). Another great option is also the Tuba's, which is open fo
r both lunches and for happy hour if you are passing through the area later in the day. If
hunger has not yet beaten, another option is to go down by Piazza Garibaldi, and take a p
eek at the Flower Clock, a gift that the city gained jewelers in 1972. It has eight meters
in diameter and flowers that make up the numbers are exchanged every season.
Still in the square, it is worth visiting the Palace Wolf, built by Austrian immigrant Fre
dolin Wolf in 1880. Having already hosted the City Hall, the headquarters and some trades
as a Masonic lodge, the property passed to the coordination of Curitiba Cultural Foundatio
n that promotes several actions, including analysis workshops and literary creation and re
ading labs. The Palace also houses the Library Dario Vellozo, alternative space for commer
cialization of literary works not commonly found in the supply chain.
The third attraction of the square is the second town church, the Church of the Rosary. Bu
ilt by slaves in 1737, was the church of the blacks of Saint Benedict. In 1931 it was demo
lished because of their bad condition and in 1946, the new Rosario Church was inaugurated.
In late Baroque style, it has a tiled façade, original old chapel. Adorn your walls in t
he footsteps of Passion in recent tiles in Portuguese style. At its entrance is the tomb o
f Monsignor Celso, city pastor and healing of the Cathedral for 21 years, who died in 1931
.
3. Now surely hunger pressed. If it is time for lunch down the street Claudino dos Santos (al
l of stone and only pedestrian traffic) and stop at Farnel Gastronomy Paranaense, which se
rves typical dishes of the state as barreado and tack meat. The restaurant is also a journ
ey through time, located in an old house and with many objects from other times the result
of owners collection.
If hunger is not for that, that is the time that coffee, the stop is just before. On the s
ame street is the Solar do Rosario, a particular area of ssart and culture. The site h
ouses Coffee and bookstore, art gallery, restaurant, tea house and sculpture garden. It ha
s the extensive grid of courses, workshops and studios as well as being the scene of lectu
res, book launches, and cultural events. The house where the Solar do Rosario is was built
in the late nineteenth century and is a building cataloged as good of historic preservati
on in the city.
If hunger is beer, there are several options in the surroundings as well. In addition to t
he Tuba's, which we have spoken above, also has the German Bar, one of the most traditiona
l of the city and always washed down with a cold beer and German typical foods. The is als
o open all day, it can be part of the script for lunch and later in the day. Almost opposi
te the Monk's Yard is, with its extensive list of craft beers and delicious snacks. Those
who prefer to know where the city of bohemian meets the Bar Brasileirinho is requested. Se
t in Mateus Leme Street, 67, it is a simple place with great music and lots of entertainme
nt.
Surrounding all these bars are still other monuments and lots of history. If time permits
the tip is venture by the Curitiba Memorial, (next to the German Bar to) Casa Romário Mar
tins (few meters below the German), Curitiba Cathedral and remain breath still the Solar d
o Barão, which is on the opposite side Cathedral but is home to important and traditional
artistic centers: Museum of engraving city of Curitiba, Museum of Photography City of Cur
itiba, Documentation and Research Center Guido Viaro, Gibiteca, SCABI Room, Shop Engraving
, among other options.
