We believe Travel goes beyond checking the boxes. Where you go, with whom, how, where you stay, the people you meet
and interact with, the things you choose to see and do and the quality and quantity of time you spend all contribute to
making a trip an experience to remember and cherish.
Jaunty Roads attempts to enable people get more out of their leisure travel. Our specific areas of focus are Road Trips,
Adventure and Outdoors and Special Interest Travel. Our services are as follows:

and be flexible.
2. Customized Trips for small groups of people for a memorable vacation with family, friends and/or common interest groups
executed through trusted partners
3. Pre - Planned Trips with limited group sizes to extend some unique travel experiences we've had during our own travels to
the wider community. These trips are led by Jaunty Roads’ Travel Specialists.
The team behind Jaunty Roads is composed of MBA’s from premier institutes in India who have many years of corporate
experience behind them. What’s more significant though is that we have spent a lot of our time outside work exploring the
length and breadth of India - driving, hiking and exposing ourselves to a lot of different places, activities, cuisines, cultures
and many diverse experiences, some of them life altering.

PERSONALIZED DAY TOURS
We are happy to introduce made to order, flexible, Personalized Day Tours to help people with limited leisure time
experience the city and its surrounds via carefully designed events, where everything’s taken care of. These could take from a
few hours to an entire day depending upon areas of interest and time available.
Some key themes are listed below for tours in and around Bangalore:
1. The Story of Bangalore: Tracing the history of the city from some of its earliest habitations, through the Medieval Era
where the city was first given some shape, the British Era and the establishment of the Cantonment and finally
Independence and developments post-Independence.
2. Life in Bangalore: A slice of a Bangalorean’s life, one could choose between traditional areas like Basavangudi and
Malleswaram; currently ‘happening’ neighbourhoods like Indiranagar and Koramangla and the ‘Bangalore of the
Future’ in suburbs like Whitefield and Electronic City. Each of these enclaves has a unique flavour of its own.
3. Out of Town: You could choose between hiking, exploring history and culture, cycling in the countryside and bespoke
tours that encompass the rich, though in some cases dying Khadi (Homespun), Silk weaving and organic farming
practices in the hinterland or unravel the beauty of millennia old temples and bazaars in quaint villages.

1.THE STORY OF BANGALORE
These tours trace the history and development of the city across various Phases. Travelling through various parts of the city
and halting at significant monuments and places that lend a window into the life and times of a particular era, while
specialists take visitors through significant facts, interesting details and anecdotes that help bring things alive:
PHASE 1: Origins: The Begur Temple and some of the earliest settlements in the city, traces of which still remain
PHASE 2: Medieval Bangalore: Kempe Gowda’s city and its evolution with successive rulers - City Market and Lalbagh area
PHASE 3: Colonial Bangalore: The establishment of the Cantonment (MG Road and nearby areas)
PHASE 4: Pensioners’ Paradise: Post Independence Bangalore with the temples of Nehru’s India (HAL, NAL etc.)
The Story of Bangalore can be unravelled in two forms:
1. Half Day Tours: 3-4 hr. deep dives into any one of the 4 Phases outlined above via a heritage walk or a bicycle tour.
2. Full Day Tour: A day long car tour, that takes in all Phases of the city’s development.
Tours are inclusive of Meals at landmark local institutions: MTR (Lalbagh), CTR (Malleswaram), Vidhyarthi Bhavan/Brahmin’s
Coffee House (Basavangudi) and Koshy’s (St. Mark’s Road) to name a few.
Full Day tours also include a complimentary evening drink.

2.LIFE IN BANGALORE
These tours attempt to expose visitors to a typical day in the life of a Bangalorean, outside work. The diversity of the city’s
population and its cosmopolitan profile mean that there are various kinds of Bangaloreans, each of whom may have a distinct
way of spending leisure time within the city. Some possibilities are listed below:
1. Traditional Bangalore: Areas like Malleswaram and Basavangudi are home to some of the city’s older communities and
have a distinct culture and ethos. Walking Tours with expert guides could take in strolls through the lanes and by lanes,
the bazaars, monuments - most notably old temples and local food joints with a dedicated clientele. These areas still
preserve Bangalore as it once was and have a broader mix of age groups and a narrower cross - section of ethnicities.
2. Contemporary Bangalore: The Bangalore of today is captured wonderfully in neighbourhoods like Koramangla in the
South and Indiranagar in the East. Set up a few decades back as residential extensions, these big ‘colonies’ are home to
many small and medium sized IT companies, high street markets and hip joints that cater to a fairly cosmopolitan and
largely young crowd. A drive through these areas with pit stops at retail stores, restobars and the fast vanishing
quieter and greener nooks, offers a first-hand experience of life for many of the city’s residents.
3. Bangalore of the Future: Suburbs like Whitefield and Electronic City provide a glimpse of the Bangalore of the Future:
Gated residential communities, Massive IT parks, Huge shopping Malls and International Schools make these largely
self – contained suburbs excellent windows into the future, with a largely immigrant population from across India and
rest of the world.
Any of the above can be done as a half-day tour individually. Alternatively one area each from two or more categories
can be woven together into a full day tour.

3.OUT OF TOWN
Many residents believe that the best part about living in Bangalore is the wealth of experiences outside of town. The
following are some interesting Extended Tours that can be fitted into a long day for those with special interests:
1. Hiking: Isolated hills around Bangalore offer exciting opportunities for some soft adventure. Day Hikes around town
require little by way of expertise or tools and the elevation of the city and surrounding areas means that the
weather’s conducive almost throughout the year.
2. Cycling: The countryside with narrow paved roads, little vehicular traffic (off the highways), and lots of trees and
interesting villages makes for some thrilling cycling excursions. These can also be clubbed with hikes.
3. Heritage: Mysore and Srirangapatna are full of history and have been home to some of Indian history’s legends.
Their Forts and Palaces also preserve the architectural heritage of the medieval era.
4. Country Tours: The hinterland has small rural populations that still preserve and practice some ancient Art and
Craft traditions. A few dedicated NGOs work with (and for) these communities. An Interesting example of such a
trip is highlighted on the next page.
5. Wilderness Trips: Wildlife and birds are best experienced over a long, leisurely trip but for those short of time,
some stretches of forests, grasslands and water bodies not very far from Bangalore, are excellent habitat to observe
endemic wildlife and birds. An early start can provide a great break from the concrete jungle. An example of just
this sort of a trip appears later in this document.

COUNTRY TOUR
This is an extended day trip that takes in a lot of the indigenous heritage and lifestyle of rural Karnataka. Starting early from
Bangalore we halt for a traditional breakfast at an amazing authentic eatery an hour and a half outside Bangalore. Shortly
thereafter we begin our explorations which could take in the following:
1. Chennapatna: The city of toys; many generations of kids have played with exquisite, wooden toys that have been
hand made by local artists for centuries. Mass manufactured plastic toys have nearly killed this industry.
However, some proud artists and dedicated NGOs have been working against the tide keeping this unique
tradition alive by continuing production and selling to niche markets locally and outside. We spend quality time
seeing the artists at work, understanding the process and checking out samples of the finished wooden toys.
2. Melkote: Getting off the highway post Mandya (about 120 kms from Bangalore), we take the narrower and
rougher country road to Melkote, less than 40 kms away. An NGO set up by a Gandhian, trains, employs and takes
care of local craftsmen who weave Khadi (Homespun) on traditional handlooms – the way craftsmen in India
have woven cloth for millennia. Organic Farms surrounding the non – polluting ‘factory’ contain orchards that
produce mangoes, guavas and lemons amongst others. A shop sells the Khadi and Silk ware. There’s an
interesting, ancient temple tank (Kalyani) that offers a rare glimpse into religious rituals and architecture native
to this part of the world.
We start the long drive back, breaking for drinks and snacks, before hitting town. An overnight stay will allow time
for additional experiences including silk weaving, temple architecture and jaggery making.

WILDERNESS TRIP
Another Extended Day Trip from Bangalore, Jayamangali - an off the map blackbuck reserve, less than 150 Kms to the North
of town is a 4 sq. km bio diversity hotspot that has 80 species of plants, 19 species of mammals, 67 species of butterflies, and
125 species of birds. The nearly endangered Indian Blackbuck is found in abundance here – the last census revealed over 50
for every square kilometre. The itinerary is as follows:
- Start early from Bangalore, taking the National Highway 7 (Bangalore – Mumbai) up to Dobbespet. We break here for a
conventional South Indian breakfast at a highway restaurant – part of a popular chain.
- We get off the highway to take the rougher, but more scenic country roads up to the town of Madhugiri – home to an
interesting hilltop fort that makes for an exciting hike.
- An hour’s drive over bumpy, sometimes unpaved roads brings us to the sanctuary.
- Based on time available, weather conditions and the level of enthusiasm, we can venture into the sanctuary on foot or
in a vehicle, with an authorised guide for company.
- We exit the sanctuary, break for coffee/tea and snacks, before resuming the long drive back to Bangalore.
This trip can be extended into an overnighter – camping or staying in a basic rest house inside the park. This will allow for an
interesting hike to the Madhugiri fort, with wonderful views all around. This will also provide time for a second foray into the
park, early the next morning.

activities shall be paid for directly by the guest(s) based on actuals.
5. The organisers reserve the right to cancel the trip if conditions turn non conducive.
6. Refunds on cancellation will be subject to amounts actually refunded by vendors. Jaunty Roads reserves the right to
retain an additional amount to recover any losses incurred due to cancellation.
