The single was produced by Martin Johnson and is a delicate alt-pop ballad in line with Perri's breakthrough hit "Jar of Hearts." Christina Perri has checked back in with
another delicate alt-pop ballad that should
delight supporters of her breakthrough
single "Jar of Hearts." "Human" was
released to digital retailers on Monday (Nov.
18) as the first single from Perri's as-yetuntitled sophomore album, due out in spring
2014.
"Human" finds Perri dejectedly listing her
subservient skills in the verses before
finding her nerve in the chorus and declaring
"I'm only human/And I crash and I break
down" as a piano line strolls her uberpowerful voice forward. The single was
produced by Martin Johnson, who uses
"Human" to cap off a busy 2013, during
which he also helmed Avril Lavigne's "Here's To Never Growing Up," Jason Derulo's "The
Other Side" and Gavin DeGraw's "Best I Ever Had," among other singles.
"Lovestrong," Perri's Atlantic Records debut, has sold 444,000 copies since its 2011 release,
according to Nielsen SoundScan. That album was steered by producer Joe Chiccarelli, but
according to a press release, the follow-up was recorded over the past year with Jake Gosling,
John Hill and Butch Walker, among others.
To celebrate the release of "Human," Perri will debut the song live today on "The Queen
Latifah Show."
