  1. Hedgehogs are mammals.They are spiny but not poisonous.There are 17 species of hedgehogs.They have adapted to become nocturnal.They live from 2- 7 years.
  2. They are found originally in Europe, Asia, Africa, and New Zealand.They live in gardens and forests. Domesticated ones live in homes.
  3. Hedgehogs feed on insects, snails, frogs and toads, snakes, bird eggs, carrion, mushrooms, grass roots, berries, melons, and watermelons.They eat about 200 g of insects a day and are called living pest control.They prefer dog or cat food that tastes like chicken. They dislike fish. Leaving out milk will cause stomach aches.
  4. Hedgehogs spend most of their time looking for food.They eat meat and plants so they are called omnivores.Hedgehogs have been found in European Eagle Owl pellets.When domesticated, get along fine with dogs, cats, etc.
