Vocabulary Essay #3
Who has more strength? The man or the woman. It all depends on what strength
you’re specifically talking about. A man can be more physically stronger than a woman,
but a woman can be emotionally stronger than a man or even the way around. Between
Chillingworth and Hester, I believe Hester has greater strength than Chillingworth.
Hester goes through a strident amount of humiliation in front of her town due to the sin
she had committed. Even though Hester Prynne has committed a sin, she stays strong,
but Chillingworth? He hides his identity in order to find the answers he’s seeking for
behind Hester’s sin.
What is this sin Hester Prynne has committed? She’s committed adultery. Her
banal life life has come to an end. Now she must live a life where she’s patronized for
the rest of her life with her child by the haughty puritans of the town she lives in. Even
though Hester and her daughter, Pearl are disained they still live on strong, confined in
the walls of their home alone even though they can live a better life in another town,
Hester decides to stay in the town that’ll always be condescending them. Pain, worries,
guilt - Hester will constantly feel she stays strong for her daughter even though by her
sin, Pearl will live a vapid life due to her mother’s sin, but this will make Pearl’s life
different than the other children.
What could be Hester Prynne’s weakness? Some would consider Hester’s
weakness will be her child, Pearl. Since Pearl is a child made from sin, she’ll always
show to her mother that she is what her sin created. This can debilitate Hester, and her
daughter could find joy to it, which will make her seem like a child of the devil to
everyone including her own mother. Pearl’s tumultuous tantrums can possibly even
cause her Hester to break down due to the guilt, pain, and sadness she’s brought to her
own life. In defense, Pearl is just a child, could she know that she’s doing this on
purpose, or just thinks it’s all a game.
2. What about Chillingworth? Will he be be candid later on to say he’s the husband
of Hester Prynne? In defence of him it’s understandable to hid his identity, for such a
long period of time until he finds out with who Hester committed her sin with? If so he
isn’t strong like Hester and might be even too ashamed to even show his true identity,
which will make him a imperious fool.
Overall, this proves that Hester Prynne is more stronger than her own husband,
she will deal with her sin for the rest of her life with her daughter and doesn’t need
anyone to move on with her life even it’ll be agonizing in some ways. She knows and
admits she did wrong and can’t do anything about it and must live with it until she dies
or moves out of the town to live a more relaxing life, but of course I doubt she will cause
Hester Prynne is a fighter.
