Goals Magic System
Congratulations on taking the first step towards designing the rest of your life. By setting goals
and developing a future focus you will find that you are pulled towards your goals almost as if
by magic. If you have been a wandering generality for too long then, today is the day when you
become a meaningful specific. Clarity around your goals has enormous potential to get you
moving in the direction of what you want out of life.

Since we launched the Goals Magic System in May 2003, more than 8,000 people globally have
benefited from the structured systematic approach to goal setting. We have had the good fortune to
learn many new ideas and distinctions on goal setting from the many users worldwide. All of these
new ideas are now incorporated into this latest release of the Goals Magic System.

Instructions for using the Goals Magic System
The Goals Magic System is designed to be a complete personal goal setting system. In order to get
the best out of the system you will need to allocate time were you can spend time thinking about your
life and what you want from your future.

The best approach is to allocate a couple of hours each week to work on your goals. Try and complete
one exercise, such as the Dream Activation exercise, per week. By doing small amounts each week
you will find the process a lot easier to go through. You will also develop greater momentum over the
coming weeks as you work on your goals.

It’s possible that the first time you complete an exercise you may not get it exactly right. If this is the
case then don’t worry about it for now. Simply come back and revise the work you have done in the
future. Remember … this is the design of your life we are working on here, so continue to refine and
work on it until you have it exactly as you would like it.

Over just a few short weeks you will begin to see the emergence of your own compelling future. As
this happens you will find that your excitement and enthusiasm for the development of your better
future increases. This is the time to continue using the Goals Magic System and really focus on
creating for yourself a compelling future.

The important thing to remember is that living your life by design requires some discipline and
acquiring new skills. Most people in life will dabble with goal setting … very few will spend the time to
truly understand the science behind goal setting and achieving. You can become the master of your
destiny and design the life of your dreams if you simply discipline yourself to acquiring the skills you
need.

The Goals Magic System is designed to be a systematic structured approach to the design of your
better future. As you begin to use it to design your life you will soon begin to experience the magic in
goal setting unfolding. You will reach more of your goals than ever before which will encourage you to
set even more ambitious goals. Success always breeds success and for that reason we would
encourage you to aim for smaller goals first that you totally believe you can achieve. Once you have
reached that goal then raise the bar. Continue this process and over a period of months and years you
will amaze yourself at how your capacity has grown and developed.

Being a successful goal achiever is like building muscles. You need to work at it consistently over a
long enough period of time to see results … if you follow the right formula the results always come.
With goal setting you need discipline at first until you get into the habit of being a goal setter. Give
yourself time to acquire the skills and discipline of goal setting.

DREAM ACTIVATION
We all have dreams in life! As children our imagination runs wild and we freely dream of the future and
its many possibilities. By the time we are adults though many of us have stopped dreaming and begin
leading lives of quiet desperation.

The first step then to designing the life of your dreams is to allow yourself the freedom to dream again.
It’s time to switch on your dream machine and use it to begin crafting a list of possibilities for your
future. You do this by utilising your extraordinary mental capacity known as your imagination.

As Einstein said ‘the imagination is more powerful than the will!’. Our modern world is full of examples
of people using their imaginations to forever alter the course of the world. Classic examples are the
Wright brothers who saw a flying machine in their minds, and Edison who used his imagination to light
the world.

So what could you Have, Do or Be in the future if you would only take the time to imagine it
first? If there were no limits to how your life could turn out in the future … how would you like
it to turn out?

Activating your dream machine is an easy first step to designing the life of your dreams. Find a quiet
place where you can spend the next half an hour to an hour thinking and writing. The more relaxed
you are the more your mind will be free to run wild. The key here is to not place any limits on your
thinking and write down everything that comes to mind.

In a relaxed state, cast your mind forward five years into the future and observe your ideal world. As
you do, notice everything that you now have in your world. Notice also that you are free to do
whatever you want. Finally take note of the person you have become in the process of living the life of
your dreams.

Write everything down. Everything you want to Have, Do or Be. Don’t worry how you will achieve any
of these items at this stage … just write it all down. The key here is just to stimulate your imagination.
Write every idea that comes to mind … keep your pen moving and don’t try and write in too much
detail at this stage.

Your goal here should be to build a list of 100 or more dreams across the three categories. You can
always come back and add more items later on. Imagine the increased motivation and inspiration you
will feel when you have identified 100 or more things you would like to Have, Do and Be out in your
future. This is how you begin to create a future that is so compelling that you are drawn to it …
compelled to act.

Once your list has started to take shape, work your way through the list and allocate a general time
frame to each item. Consider how long you believe each item will take you to achieve and write this
down in the place provided.

It is important that you complete the Dream Activation exercise before moving onto the next
section of Goals Magic.

OUTRAGEOUS DREAMS
Invariably when most people complete the Dream Activation exercise they hold themselves back on
some of the items they have thought of. Thoughts of doubt, lack or uncertainty hold many back from
truly living their dreams. If this is you then relax, as this is normal.

It’s possible that some of the thoughts you had during the Dream Activation were just too outrageous
to write down, which is fine. So write them down here in the outrageous dreams section!

Make a list of all your totally outrageous dreams here … you never know, one day they may not be so
outrageous! Write it all down … at the very least get all of your dreams down in writing. It can be hard
to remember the things you don’t write down and it takes so little effort to commit the good work of
your imagination to paper.

The funny thing about outrageous dreams is that they often are not as outrageous as you once
thought. Napoleon Hill, author of ‘Think and Grow Rich’, once wrote that what you can conceive in
your mind and believe in, you can actually achieve. So even though some of the ideas that came to
you during the Dream Activation exercise may today seem too far beyond your reach, they may be
closer than you currently realise.

Over time as you begin to reach more and more of your goals your outrageous dreams, which may
appear so large now, will begin to shrink in magnitude. Come back and visit this section from time to
time and just imagine yourself achieving each of your outrageous dreams.

FUTURE VISION STATEMENT
Our next step is to take the thoughts and ideas from the dream activation exercise and begin the
process of manifesting them into tangible real world results. We do this firstly through the development
of your future vision statement. A future vision statement is a description of how you would like your

and personal development.

In each of these major life areas it is important that you have a clearly defined vision of were you
would like to be in the future. The ideal time frame is five years for your future vision. When writing out
your future vision statements develop as much clarity and specifity as you can. The more your future
vision is crystallized in specific detail the more compelled you will be to work towards it.

Write your future vision statements in personal, positive and present tense language. So use language
that leads your unconscious mind to believe that your future vision is actually a description of how
things are today.

Your future vision is not a goal as such, but rather it is a point in time that will require you to achieve
several major goals along the way before you can realise your future vision. For now list these down in
the area allocated to milestones. In the next section of the Goals Magic System we will begin to
establish major goals that will lead us to the achievement of our future vision.

The example below will give you a feel for how to write a future vision statement. There is no right or
wrong way and ultimately it is what feels right for you is what will give you the best results. You may
need to re-work your future vision statements several times until you feel you have it just right. Your
future vision statements should fire you up with excitement when you read them.

Once you have your future vision statement just as you like it, the next step is to gather as many
images and you can find the visually represent your future vision statement. Paste these onto a page
with your future vision statement so that as you read and review them you can load your unconscious
mind with visual input of the life you wish to create.




       FUTURE VISION - Health

       My health is my number 1 priority and everyday I invest in ensuring my health is excellent. I
       am extremely fit & healthy. I maintain my ideal bodyweight of 85kg easily and effortlessly. I
       follow a natural, healthy lifestyle and as a result I have an amazing level of energy. I

GOALS SUMMARY
  Now that we have crystallised our vision of the future in each of the major life areas it is time to
  establish our major goals. The idea behind major goals is to move us forward in the direction of our
  future vision for ourselves. Each major goal achieved should move us significantly closer to our future
  vision.

  It is important that we maintain a balance in life, as every area of our life will affect every other area of
  our lives. In setting our major goals then we need to aim towards having approximately 2 – 3 major
  goals in each area of our life. It makes little sense to have total focus on building our financial health if
  our physical or spiritual health suffers. It’s foolish to focus on having an excellent career if the
  relationship with our loved ones is suffering. Strive for a balance in all areas of our lives.

  Major goals are any goals that will take you from approximately twelve weeks to 5 years to
  accomplish.

  When writing out your goals it is vital that you use the correct formula. Following years of studying and
  research we have developed the E.P.E.G.S formula for successful goal writing. This stands for:

  E – begin with the end date for your goal
  P – write your goal in the personal, positive and present tense sense
  E – include emotional intensity into your goal
  G – then state your goal with clarity
  S – include specific details for your goal.

  If you use the E.P.E.G.S formula you will find that your goals are more easily accepted by your
  unconscious mind when regularly reviewed. Examine the below example of a goal written using the
  E.P.E.G.S. formula:

GOAL PLANNER
The final step is to take your major goals and break them down into a detailed plan! Your goals chart
your course towards your vision for the future. Your plans reveal the necessary steps to take, the
possible obstacles you will need to overcome, the additional skills you will need to acquire and the
action steps that will see you manifest the goal.

Our goal planner is the perfect tool for you to think through all of the details for your goal. You may not
need to use the goal planner for every goal, but for those you do you will find the process invaluable.
The goal planner takes your large goal and chunks it down into a level of detail that makes it more
tangible and believable.

The first step is to describe the end step of the goal in question. The end step is the moment you have
achieved your goal … what will you be experiencing in that moment? What will you see, hear and
what emotions will you feel? Describe it all in detail so that you have a clear view of the result you will
need to produce in order to successfully achieve your goal.

Your reasons WHY you want to achieve your goal are perhaps the most important component in
developing the drive and determination to see it through. Find as many reasons why you want to
achieve this goal as you can think of.

The second page of the goal planner asks you to give consideration to the resources you will require
you to achieve the goal, the knowledge and skills necessary, and the possible obstacles you will need
to overcome. By pre-planning each of these areas you will be instructing your unconscious mind to
begin working right away.

As your goal begins to take shape it is extremely powerful to develop a model of excellence for your
goal. Your model of excellence is looking at the person you need to become in order to achieve this
goal. What are the empowering belief systems, values and habits will you need to adopt to
successfully achieve your goal?

Before moving forward on your goal it is important that you take a moment to do a quick ecology
check. This is a look at the effects of your goal on the world around you. If you can live with the effects
then move forward.

The third page of the goal planner takes your goal and breaks it down into smaller chunks. Work on
breaking down your goal into at least five smaller chunks or sub goals. Once you have done that
brainstorm all of the action steps you could take to achieve this goal. Don’t worry about the order etc
at this stage just write everything down. From there, review your list of action items and consider what
are the first five steps you could take and write them down. Now go do them!

The final page of the goal planner asks you to make a list of power statements that affirm you are
moving forward towards your goal. What would you need to be telling yourself on a regular basis to
literally talk yourself into the successful achievement of your goal?

The key last steps are to decide how you are going celebrate the achievement of your goal. This can
be one of the most compelling and motivating forces that lead you to action. Give careful consideration
to how you are going to reward yourself and plan it out at the beginning.

Finally commit to the goal by signing your name to the goal planner. Your commitment in writing will
keep you in the game long after your desire to quit has resided.

In order to get the best out of the system you will need to allocate time were you can spend time thinking about your life and what you want from your future. The best approach is to allocate a couple of hours each week to work on your goals. Try and complete one exercise, such as the Dream Activation exercise, per week. By doing small amounts each week you will find the process a lot easier to go through. You will also develop greater momentum over the coming weeks as you work on your goals. It’s possible that the first time you complete an exercise you may not get it exactly right. If this is the case then don’t worry about it for now. Simply come back and revise the work you have done in the future. Remember … this is the design of your life we are working on here, so continue to refine and work on it until you have it exactly as you would like it. Over just a few short weeks you will begin to see the emergence of your own compelling future. As this happens you will find that your excitement and enthusiasm for the development of your better future increases. This is the time to continue using the Goals Magic System and really focus on creating for yourself a compelling future. The important thing to remember is that living your life by design requires some discipline and acquiring new skills. Most people in life will dabble with goal setting … very few will spend the time to truly understand the science behind goal setting and achieving. You can become the master of your destiny and design the life of your dreams if you simply discipline yourself to acquiring the skills you need. The Goals Magic System is designed to be a systematic structured approach to the design of your better future. As you begin to use it to design your life you will soon begin to experience the magic in goal setting unfolding. You will reach more of your goals than ever before which will encourage you to set even more ambitious goals.   • 7. DREAM ACTIVATION We all have dreams in life! As children our imagination runs wild and we freely dream of the future and its many possibilities. By the time we are adults though many of us have stopped dreaming and begin leading lives of quiet desperation. The first step then to designing the life of your dreams is to allow yourself the freedom to dream again. It’s time to switch on your dream machine and use it to begin crafting a list of possibilities for your future. You do this by utilising your extraordinary mental capacity known as your imagination. As Einstein said ‘the imagination is more powerful than the will!’. Our modern world is full of examples of people using their imaginations to forever alter the course of the world. Classic examples are the Wright brothers who saw a flying machine in their minds, and Edison who used his imagination to light the world. So what could you Have, Do or Be in the future if you would only take the time to imagine it first? If there were no limits to how your life could turn out in the future … how would you like it to turn out? Activating your dream machine is an easy first step to designing the life of your dreams. Find a quiet place where you can spend the next half an hour to an hour thinking and writing. The more relaxed you are the more your mind will be free to run wild. The key here is to not place any limits on your thinking and write down everything that comes to mind. In a relaxed state, cast your mind forward five years into the future and observe your ideal world. As you do, notice everything that you now have in your world. Notice also that you are free to do whatever you want. Finally take note of the person you have become in the process of living the life of your dreams. Write everything down. Everything you want to Have, Do or Be. Don’t worry how you will achieve any of these items at this stage … just write it all down. The key here is just to stimulate your imagination. Write every idea that comes to mind … keep your pen moving and don’t try and write in too much detail at this stage. Your goal here should be to build a list of 100 or more dreams across the three categories. You can always come back and add more items later on. Imagine the increased motivation and inspiration you will feel when you have identified 100 or more things you would like to Have, Do and Be out in your future. This is how you begin to create a future that is so compelling that you are drawn to it … compelled to act. Once your list has started to take shape, work your way through the list and allocate a general time frame to each item. Consider how long you believe each item will take you to achieve and write this down in the place provided.   • 14. OUTRAGEOUS DREAMS Invariably when most people complete the Dream Activation exercise they hold themselves back on some of the items they have thought of. Thoughts of doubt, lack or uncertainty hold many back from truly living their dreams. If this is you then relax, as this is normal. It’s possible that some of the thoughts you had during the Dream Activation were just too outrageous to write down, which is fine. So write them down here in the outrageous dreams section! Make a list of all your totally outrageous dreams here … you never know, one day they may not be so outrageous! Write it all down … at the very least get all of your dreams down in writing. It can be hard to remember the things you don’t write down and it takes so little effort to commit the good work of your imagination to paper. The funny thing about outrageous dreams is that they often are not as outrageous as you once thought. Napoleon Hill, author of ‘Think and Grow Rich’, once wrote that what you can conceive in your mind and believe in, you can actually achieve. So even though some of the ideas that came to you during the Dream Activation exercise may today seem too far beyond your reach, they may be closer than you currently realise. Over time as you begin to reach more and more of your goals your outrageous dreams, which may appear so large now, will begin to shrink in magnitude. Come back and visit this section from time to time and just imagine yourself achieving each of your outrageous dreams. ‘Your ability to set goals is the master skill of success.   • 16. FUTURE VISION STATEMENT Our next step is to take the thoughts and ideas from the dream activation exercise and begin the process of manifesting them into tangible real world results. We do this firstly through the development of your future vision statement. A future vision statement is a description of how you would like your life to work out in each of the major life areas being: health, financial, career, relationships, spiritual and personal development. In each of these major life areas it is important that you have a clearly defined vision of were you would like to be in the future. The ideal time frame is five years for your future vision. When writing out your future vision statements develop as much clarity and specifity as you can. The more your future vision is crystallized in specific detail the more compelled you will be to work towards it. Write your future vision statements in personal, positive and present tense language. So use language that leads your unconscious mind to believe that your future vision is actually a description of how things are today. Your future vision is not a goal as such, but rather it is a point in time that will require you to achieve several major goals along the way before you can realise your future vision. For now list these down in the area allocated to milestones. In the next section of the Goals Magic System we will begin to establish major goals that will lead us to the achievement of our future vision. The example below will give you a feel for how to write a future vision statement. There is no right or wrong way and ultimately it is what feels right for you is what will give you the best results. You may need to re-work your future vision statements several times until you feel you have it just right. Your future vision statements should fire you up with excitement when you read them. Once you have your future vision statement just as you like it, the next step is to gather as many images and you can find the visually represent your future vision statement. Paste these onto a page with your future vision statement so that as you read and review them you can load your unconscious mind with visual input of the life you wish to create. FUTURE VISION - Health My health is my number 1 priority and everyday I invest in ensuring my health is excellent. I am extremely fit & healthy. I maintain my ideal bodyweight of 85kg easily and effortlessly. I follow a natural, healthy lifestyle and as a result I have an amazing level of energy. I regularly compete in triathlons and fun runs around the world. I run several times per week, as well as bike ride, swim and go to the gym. I enjoy eating healthy fresh fruits and vegetables each and every day. I look great, I feel great and I am in great health. I am a model of excellent health for my age and many people cannot believe my age when asked. I am a great role model for a healthy energetic lifestyle.   • 23. GOALS SUMMARY Now that we have crystallised our vision of the future in each of the major life areas it is time to establish our major goals. The idea behind major goals is to move us forward in the direction of our future vision for ourselves. Each major goal achieved should move us significantly closer to our future vision. It is important that we maintain a balance in life, as every area of our life will affect every other area of our lives. In setting our major goals then we need to aim towards having approximately 2 – 3 major goals in each area of our life. It makes little sense to have total focus on building our financial health if our physical or spiritual health suffers. It’s foolish to focus on having an excellent career if the relationship with our loved ones is suffering. Strive for a balance in all areas of our lives. Major goals are any goals that will take you from approximately twelve weeks to 5 years to accomplish. When writing out your goals it is vital that you use the correct formula. Following years of studying and research we have developed the E.P.E.G.S formula for successful goal writing. This stands for: E – begin with the end date for your goal P – write your goal in the personal, positive and present tense sense E – include emotional intensity into your goal G – then state your goal with clarity S – include specific details for your goal. If you use the E.P.E.G.S formula you will find that your goals are more easily accepted by your unconscious mind when regularly reviewed.   • 26. GOAL PLANNER The final step is to take your major goals and break them down into a detailed plan! Your goals chart your course towards your vision for the future. Your plans reveal the necessary steps to take, the possible obstacles you will need to overcome, the additional skills you will need to acquire and the action steps that will see you manifest the goal. Our goal planner is the perfect tool for you to think through all of the details for your goal. You may not need to use the goal planner for every goal, but for those you do you will find the process invaluable. The goal planner takes your large goal and chunks it down into a level of detail that makes it more tangible and believable. The first step is to describe the end step of the goal in question. The end step is the moment you have achieved your goal … what will you be experiencing in that moment? What will you see, hear and what emotions will you feel? Describe it all in detail so that you have a clear view of the result you will need to produce in order to successfully achieve your goal. Your reasons WHY you want to achieve your goal are perhaps the most important component in developing the drive and determination to see it through. Find as many reasons why you want to achieve this goal as you can think of. The second page of the goal planner asks you to give consideration to the resources you will require you to achieve the goal, the knowledge and skills necessary, and the possible obstacles you will need to overcome. By pre-planning each of these areas you will be instructing your unconscious mind to begin working right away. As your goal begins to take shape it is extremely powerful to develop a model of excellence for your goal. Your model of excellence is looking at the person you need to become in order to achieve this goal. What are the empowering belief systems, values and habits will you need to adopt to successfully achieve your goal? Before moving forward on your goal it is important that you take a moment to do a quick ecology check. This is a look at the effects of your goal on the world around you. If you can live with the effects then move forward. The third page of the goal planner takes your goal and breaks it down into smaller chunks. Work on breaking down your goal into at least five smaller chunks or sub goals. Once you have done that brainstorm all of the action steps you could take to achieve this goal. Don’t worry about the order etc at this stage just write everything down. From there, review your list of action items and consider what are the first five steps you could take and write them down. Now go do them! The final page of the goal planner asks you to make a list of power statements that affirm you are moving forward towards your goal. What would you need to be telling yourself on a regular basis to literally talk yourself into the successful achievement of your goal? The key last steps are to decide how you are going celebrate the achievement of your goal. This can be one of the most compelling and motivating forces that lead you to action. Give careful consideration to how you are going to reward yourself and plan it out at the beginning. Finally commit to the goal by signing your name to the goal planner.
