GENRE OF ‘I’M HERE’
I’m Here could be classed as a hybrid genre:

Towards the end of the short film, the
male robot gives the female robot all
of his body parts until all that is left of
him is a head. This could be classed
as tragedy because in effect the male
It could be classed as romantic
robot is now dead and cannot do
                                             because of the blossoming
The main protagonists are robots anything for himself. The tragic
                                             relationship of the two robots
which brings in an element if science elements are that the female robot

feature of this sub genre is that is
another world where humans and cannot do anything but give her parts

robots live side by side, and this is a of him to fix her.
typical feature of a science fiction film.
REPRESENTATION
-The world shown within ‘I’m Here’ is a world where humans and robots live
side by side, however humans have control over the robots – robots are
not allowed to drive unlike the humans and the humans don’t really
seem to care about the robots.
-It is a world where no one seems happy, even the humans, showing that
power does not always mean that people are happy. The robots are not
always acknowledged showing where they stand.
-A world where humans are dominant and robots are submissive.
-The world is pretty sinister, which is a complete contrast to the main
   character, Sheldon.

PREJUDICE?
-Robots are not allowed to drive.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
Main character Sheldon – He is kind, caring and cute with a sense of
vulnerability, especially because he is a robot and would let anyone take
   advantage of him.
Love interest Francesca – Seems like the type to use other people such as
Sheldon – he is willing to give up anything for her. She is clumsy and
breaks herself several times in the film – events that cause Sheldon to
cease as a complete robot. This leads me to class her as self-
destructive and possibly takes advantage of people around her and
   their generosity.
MESSAGES
LOVE – There seems to be a negative image of love in this film, with the
male giving up things and the female taking them. This could show the
nature of the males’ feelings towards the female, and could suggest that
the love is not equal and that the female may be using the males love to
get what she wants. On the other hand, it could be that the two robots
are taking care of each other – this is shown at the end when the female
is holding the male robots head in her arms.
LOYALTY – The male robot is willing to give up himself and his life for love.
The end of the film could show the loyalty from the female towards the
male when she stays with his head at the end, rather than leaving him.
This suggests that she will always stay by his side because of the
   generosity that he showed her.
The director, Spike Jonze may have wanted to make the audience see
things from other points of view.
AUDIENCE
I think the audience is young people as the short film is about a love story
between two young robots, so in a way, young people could relate to
the struggles some young people have to stay in a relationship at such
     a young age.
Also, the audience must be expected to be people over the age of 18
because the sponsor is Absolut Vodka which is alcohol which is only
for people 18 and over. The film poster uses the subtitle ‘A love story in
an absolut world’. This links to the sponsor but could also suggest that
 ABSOLUT SPONSOR
the world is incomplete rather than absolute.

I think Absolut sponsored this short film because there are several scenes
 USES AND GRATIFICATIONS
of parties and a gig which suggests that people will be drinking at these
     events.

There are elements of escapism and identification within the film.
