La Butte Montmartre - The Hill of Montmartre
You can easily join the top of the hill by underground, city buses or funicular. This part of Paris is well served,
since it is one of the most famous things to see in Paris. Here, the huge white limestone Sacré Coeur Basilica
with its lush garden overlooks the whole city and offers you a breathtaking view of all the city lights! If you want
more, you can access the church to have a really unobstructed wiew, but – be careful – you have to pay a fee (6
Euros) to admire the view. Anyway, you should also consider an internal visit of the building – for free – and you
don’t even need to check your watch: the Basilica is open until 10.00 p.m.!

world made of canvas and paper splashed with the most colourful
shades. In order to live this typical and time-warping adventure in its
maximum level, when you go out the Sacré Coeur Basilica just follow the
row with souvenir shops and you will access the very heart of this
picturesque district. On second thought, maybe we said wrong: we spoke
about a district, isn’t it? So why the presence of windmills? And the
vineyards?

Now you can better understand why the correct word is “village”. The
windmills prove the old setting of the Butte Montmartre and act as a
setting for the several vines planted more than two centuries ago. The
windmills don’t have any practical fonction, but they are just an aesthetic
attraction. Among the mills, it is quite impossible to not recognise the
most famous one in the world: the Moulin Rouge (see below for more
information). If you come in Autumn, you cannot miss the wine harvest
festival where you can sample the wine from freshly picked grapes at the
Clos Montmartre (the ancient name for the vineyard) - a good opportunity
to cuddle your partner in a magic and bohemian atmosphere of

stunning beauty of the Cathedral will still convey a unique
feeling created by the perfect union of art, poetry and
literature. Notre Dame is, indeed, so famous thanks to
Victor Hugo’s novel “Notre Dame de Paris” which rekindled
the interest of the authorities to make the Cathedral the
main church of the city.
Beside being so important for its religious, cultural and
artistic aspect, Notre Dame can also charm for its location.
If you stroll a bit in the surroundings of the Cathedral, you
will notice that it rises at the middle of the Seine River.
Yes, you are right! This is an island! To be fair, the Île de la
Cité, the French name of this islet, represents the very
heart of Paris and the place where it all started. If you look

This place has been so vital in every period
of time, from the 18th century (it was the
residence of Madame Pompadour, the chief
mistress of Louis XV) to the 19th century,
when it was the setting of the abdication of
Napoleon, before being transformed into a
residential palace. The Élysée is located in
the modern heart of the city, a stone’s throw
from the most charming boulevard of the
French capital city: the Champs Élysées.Nearby the Louvre, you will find the Élysée
Palace that is open for public visits only
during the “journées du patrimoine”
(heritage days). Do you know? Well, this
building is the official residence of French
Republic President, so maybe he doesn’t

This monument is one of most representive symbols of Paris,
considered by the French as a sacred site for their country.
This is not a case if all the city streets lead to the square at the
basis of the Arch and that the square is called “Place de l’Étoile”
(étoile means “star”).
