It lacks significant cardiovascular effects and does not require kidney function for elimination, offering advantages over other non-depolarizing agents. Atracurium besylate works by competitively binding to cholinergic receptor sites at the motor end-plate, antagonizing the action of acetylcholine, and this antagonism can be reversed by acetylcholinesterase inhibitors like neostigmine.
