Mathematics anxiety or phobia is defined as the panic, helplessness, and mental disorganization that arises in some people when required to solve mathematical problems. It refers to the feeling of tension and anxiety that interferes with manipulating numbers and solving math problems in various academic and life situations. Characteristics of math anxiety include nausea, shortness of breath, sweating, isolation, and loss of self-confidence and avoidance of math. Causes may include examinations, pressure to perform well, beliefs that math is only for geniuses, low math proficiency, views of adults/parents that math is hard, unsupportive teaching methods, perceptions of peers that math is difficult, too many notations and formulas that cannot
