AT&T WIRELESS NETWORK RANKED NO. 1 IN AKRON
Independent research firm RootMetrics awards top spot to AT&T in
recent wireless network performance test
AKRON, Ohio, Feb. 18, 2013 — AT&T* wireless customers in Akron, Ohio are benefitting from a
network ranked highest in the city by an independent research firm.
RootMetrics®, an independent research and testing organization based in Seattle, recently released a
wireless network performance study for Akron, naming AT&T the RootMetrics RootScore® Combined
Award winner for its combination of call quality, text performance and mobile Internet speed.
The RootMetrics award is the result of more than 12,000 wireless test calls, texts and mobile Internet
transmissions conducted during November 2012.
―AT&T ranked highest in Akron for overall network performance, according to our research conducted
in November 2012. We tested call, data and text performance across the Akron area, including over
AT&T’s 4G LTE network. As a result, AT&T won the RootScore Award for combined performance in the
area,‖ said Bill Moore, RootMetrics CEO.
AT&T launched 4G LTE** in Akron in April 2012, and it plans to expand its 4G LTE network to cover
300 million people by year-end 2014. Even as we execute these plans, customers can get 4G speeds
outside of 4G LTE areas with our 4G HSPA+ technology, unlike competitors, where smartphone
customers fall back to slower 3G technologies when outside of LTE coverage.
―Our customers have told us they’ve been amazed by the speeds and quality of our 4G LTE network,
and the latest RootMetrics test backs that up,‖ said Larry Evans, vice president and general manager,
AT&T Ohio and western Pennsylvania. ―There are more reasons than ever to choose AT&T. We
invested more than $1.4 billion in our Ohio wireless and wireline networks from 2009 through 2011, and
we’ll continue investing in order to give our customers the best possible experience.‖
The testing period covering Akron, OH, released on Jan. 10, 2013, measured 12,037 call, data, and text tests of mobile service experience by
RootMetrics. The Report is proprietary to RootMetrics.
Performance rankings are derived using data sampling and analysis methods that are subject to statistical variation. The results of the Report
are not an endorsement of AT&T by RootMetrics. Wireless network performance is subject to a number of factors. Your experiences may vary.
