U B S Prepares To Impact Worldwide Evangelicals At Lausanne I I I
1. UBS prepares to impact worldwide evangelicals at Lausanne III
Among the 4 500 leaders of the worldwide Church due to meet in Cape Town for
the Third Lausanne Congress on World
Evangelization are 30 delegates from Bible
Societies who have been primed for a special task.
Starting on Saturday, October 16, the Congress
runs for nine days, during which delegates will be
discussing how issues such as world faiths,
poverty, HIV and AIDS and the persecution of
Christians will affect the Church and world
evangelisation. In addition, the Bible Society delegates have been asked to ensure
that a thousand special memory sticks, pre-loaded with movies and other resources
displaying the work of United Bible Societies (UBS), get distributed.
The materials that delegates will be able take home from South Africa on the digital
sticks include the Scripture catalogues and web addresses of more than 60 national
Bible Societies that have online catalogues. Also being distributed at the Congress
is a specially produced booklet profiling the type and the scope of work undertaken
by Bible Societies while the Bible Society of South Africa is producing a special
commemorative bookmark as a reminder for delegates.
'Be ready to respond!'
The General Secretary of UBS, Rev Dr Miller Milloy, described the initiative as “a
rare opportunity to impact evangelical leaders and to demonstrate the benefits of
partnering with Bible Societies in spreading the Gospel message.” He predicted that
once delegates to the Congress returned to their own countries, Bible Societies
would see a resulting rise in demand for their services -- and he urged them to be
ready to respond.
