1. Community, Learning and Creativity in Harmony Hawes Side Primary School Green Council Autumn 2010
2. A Notice board and Blog site has been set up for the council to inform the community of our projects. The Green Council has conducted an environmental review of the school and has created an action plan. We have established a Green Council which has staff, children and parents on the committee. The green Council has met on 8 occasions to plan and discuss issues. Started to develop the sensory garden for all children to use and enjoy by planting over 50 plants and two fruit trees. The school has reviewed its Eco Code. Run 3 whole school assemblies. Planted over 600 bulbs in school grounds. This is what our school has achieved over the last term. Collected over 10500, Morrrisons Vouchers which equates to 88 gardening items. All fruit waste now composted – all infant classes having bins Cleared the vegetable plots for next year. Planted over 430 trees donated by the Woodland trust during friendship week. Raised £430 in the process! Conducted a big tidy up of the Quad garden and planted a further 80 bulbs in there. We have learnt about the importance of trees from the local to world scale. School has encouraged other schools to take part in our projects. School has registered with the POD web site and Took part in switch off fortnight The green council undertook energy audits throughout the fortnight, and children's work from years 1 – 6 were added to the Gallery on line. Children learnt how to save energy in school and at home – over 450 pledges made. We now recycle paper, cardboard, plastics, glass, clothes and batteries.
3. Switch off fortnight was a great success and we wanted to share some of the work you have done with everyone else!! Lets take a look at the Gallery on the POD!! www.jointhepod.org The POD was so impressed with our schools learning and hard work that they awarded us with a Gold and Silver medal. Well done.
4. As we have made such progress over this last term we have now gained…
9. Reduce litter around schoolWe will also conduct weekly audits to find the best classes at switching off appliances and lights as a means of continuing the switch off fortnight work. We will also be highlighting the classes that don’t switch off. Results will be posted on the Eco Board. We all have a responsibility to do our part in improving the school environment. But well done, together we have made a great start!!
