It was very moving to watch the funeral mass for Supreme Court Judge Antonin Scalia. This catholic
service has held by Father John Scalia, one of nine children of the late Supreme Court Judge. What
was it like for a son to hold the funeral for his dad? I appreciate Judge Scalia’s textual, matter-of-fact
interpretation of the US Constitution. It is not a living document that can be re-defined and reasoned
away. It has to be interpreted as-is. Therefore, Scalia was always a firm defender of liberty, individual
rights and the right to life. He was a judge who interpreted law and not one who ruled from the bench
according to the whims of political correctness.
“We are gathered here because of one man. A man known personally to many of us, known only by
reputation to even more. A man loved by many, scorned by others. A man known by man for great
controversy, and for great compassion,” Rev. Scalia said. “That man, of course, is Jesus of Nazareth.”
I am glad that Father John Scalia did not praise his dad in terms of preaching him into Heaven. He
declared that our hope is in Jesus Christ and that Jesus Christ provided the means for sinful mankind-
you and me – to be saved.
What I deeply appreciate about a son preaching the funeral for his dad is the blessing that in this
family parents could communicate their faith to their children. That is the main task of believers:
spreading the saving in Jesus Christ and passing it on to the next generation. One of the cruelest things
that break my heart are such egotistical outgrowths where children are misled to rebel against the
traditional faith of their parents. When parents have Christian faith and government schools mislead
their children to distrust their parents and reject their Christian beliefs this is one of the most asocial
perils in our society and mark its destruction from within. It is true that it is the greatest joy to see
one’s children walk in truth: I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. 3.
John 4. The greatest joy is to see young people believe in the divine inspiration of the Bible, believe
in creation, believe in waiting till marriage, believe in Christian matrimony and experience personal
salvation when they reach the age of accountability and then living the New Life found in Jesus Christ
in line with His word. Some of that joy was felt when I watched the funeral service for Judge Scalia
because he was able to live out his own Catholic faith, pass it on to his children, and then his son was
the priest in officiating over his dad’s funeral. Personally I am a Baptist and not a Catholic but I
appreciate Catholics who have a love for the Lord Jesus Christ and I know Judge Scalia loved the
truth. John Scalia expressed that he was blessed by a loving father and that this father shared the
blessing of the faith with him. That means more than the career as judge, the legal opinions and court
decisions.
There is something in Father Scalia’s homily in honor of his dad that I really think is worth
repeating: “He knew well what a close-run thing the founding of our country was. And he saw in that
founding, as did the founders, a blessing — a blessing quickly lost when faith is lost from the public

square or when we refuse to bring it there,” Scalia said. “Dad understood that the deeper he went in
his Catholic faith, the better a citizen and public servant he became.”
This is a warning to us! We are losing the blessing of liberty because faith is lost from the public
square – because some try to outlaw public expressions of Christian faith and push back faith into the
private closet – and Christians themselves are often guilty of refusing to bring faith to the public
square – Christians withdraw into cozy worship centers, church buildings and refrain from confessing
Christ before men because they are afraid of offending others, afraid of losing jobs and careers or
simply to vain and proud. I think we should be challenged at all cost to bring our faith into the public
square.
Public Square
I am glad that there was a judge who understood that living out his personal faith in Christ made him a
better citizen and public servant. That understanding is lost among the modern, new-fangled public
servants. Some of them have declared Christianity to be the enemy public and have tried to get public
servants fired for their Christian faith. We have seen this with the firing of the Fire Chief of the city of
Atlanta because of his Christian views on the issue of marriage and his belief that homosexuality is
sinful. But we must understand that Christian virtues strengthen a society and cause people to rightly
govern their own affairs, so that only a limited amount of government is necessary and liberty is
maximized. We now must chose to oppose the trend where faith is pushed out of the public square as
atheists flood the nation with outrageous lawsuits because they hate to hear the name of Jesus. We
cannot be silent about what Jesus has done because this only brings salvation from sin. Jesus is the
only way to Heaven and we must trust Him for our soul’s salvation. There is no other way. No other
gospel. Jesus Christ is the evidence of God’s love. God became man in Christ Jesus so that we can be
saved and be one with God and receive a new life that overcomes death.
Conversion – Not Change
In his homily Father Scalia mentioned the need for conversion. The fact that Jesus rose from the dead
and that the hope of resurrection has made it possible for Antonin Scalia to enter into glory should
change us. That really spoke from my heart. So much damage has been done in the name of political
or social “change”. Those who promised to “fundamentally change” America are the one’s guilt of
fundamentally ruining America. Political and social changes will only lead into the wrong directions
unless people first experience a personal change thru conversion to Jesus Christ. Instead of trusting
self-appointed political messiah for some form of “change”, let us rather be converted to the true
Messiah Jesus Christ who changes us from within through the work of the Holy Ghost. That change is
called for now. You don’t need the stupid “change” promised by populist socialists like Bernie
Sanders. You need to be converted. Experience a true personal change by repenting of your sin and
trusting the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. Father Scalia read the scripture from the Gospel of
Matthew: Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take
my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest
unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Mt. 11:28-30. We don’t need
anymore “change” through politics and socio-economic pressures. We need to come to Christ. Have
you come to Christ yet and been born again?
As I watched the funeral mass for Judge Scalia a scripture came to my mind from Isaiah 3:1-9 about
how a nation that forgets God loses its great leaders and is ruled instead by “children”, “women” and
“oppressors”, i. e. immature people who are oppressive and have no shame for they “declare their sin
as Sodom”. It is described how a wicked nations loses all its former blessings.
For, behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay
and the staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water,
The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient,

The captain of fifty, and the honourable man, and the counsellor, and the cunning artificer, and the
eloquent orator.
And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.
And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour: the child
shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable.
I know the Lord has taken away a great judge. Justice Scalia was appointed to the Supreme Court by
president Ronald Reagan in 1986. Whenever a great leader, politician or preacher goes home to be
with the Lord I wonder who will follow into his footsteps? Who will follow into the footsteps of
Justice Scalia? Will his legacy be ignored by an ultra-liberal administration? Will his life work be
despised and mocked by a new judge who is more of an immature child who will behave himself
proudly against the ancient? Will the moral clarity of judge Scalia be followed by another appointee
who will proudly declare his sin as Sodom? Some of today’s leaders seem as selfish children (Isaiah
3:4,12) compared to godly leaders of earlier periods. The Bible says those “children” will cause the
people to err and destroy their paths. We see this happening in front of our eyes. In 1986 the Supreme
Court correctly ruled that the Constitution does not allow for such as thing as “gay marriage“. Look at
the error promoted by leaders today as they arrogantly rule from the bench and presume themselves to
be gods. Scalia called this evil court ruling a “judicial Putsch” and a “threat to American democracy”.
I hope we not only pretend to mourn over the loss of a great judge who saw thru the error but get to
work on reversing such evils as the “gay marriage” ruling or Roe vs. Wade and other mock trials of
injustice.
We had it good under a judge who had common sense and Christian faith. He fought for the right to
life, dissented on the evil of so-called “gay marriage” and stood his ground for interpreting the
Constitution literally. His originalism will be missed. Can we afford another judge who is just another
careerist without guts but full of liberal ideology and hatred for traditional values and faith? Will it be
another over-educated America-hating would-be European socialist? But people love to have it so that
folks are brought into politics who despise and mock that which is good.
We don’t need America-hating socialists in the White House and we also don’t need someone who is
known for casinos, TV entertainment and reality shows. How come that some of the best candidates –
Mike Huckabee and Rand Paul – are already out of the race. The stupidity of modern people is that
they cannot endure people who are down-to-earth and have Christian convictions. That seemingly is
not cool or entertaining enough .But they forget that leaders are not voted in to entertain but to be
public servants under law and to make and execute just laws. But that doesn’t sell good in digital
mobile devices that people are addicted to. I think it is time for people to realize that they must be
converted. Even people who say they are Christians are hooked on so many sinful habits created by
marketeers and non-Christian social planners and manipulators that people need to spend time in
repentance and asking God to correct our ways so that we can live our faith and not what is suggested
on asocial media. We must follow Christ instead of imaginary digital “friends”. My God is real.
Virtual reality is unreal and deceptive. It is better to trust the Lord.
God bless the memory of Judge Scalia. May his legacy of faith and his writings be an inspiration to
future leaders, lawyers and judges that will work to take this country back as one nation under God. To
this end I pray for our leaders.
