GuideGuide
In this guide we will know the Pyrenees or the Pyrenees a mountain range located north of the
Iberian Peninsula, which acts as a natural border between Spain and France and has a million
things to do and see.
It extends east-west along 430 km, from Cape Creus in the Mediterranean Sea to its union with
the Cantabrian mountain range, where the Pamplona fault has been established as its
conventional geological limit, there being no geographical interruption between both
formations. In its central part it has a width of about 150 km.
It has several areas, the French part extends on the northern slope, through the French regions
of New Aquitaine and Occitania.
On the southern slope by the Spanish autonomous communities of the Basque Country,
Navarre, Aragon and Catalonia. The small country of Andorra is nestled in the mountain range.
Although in this blog we are going to focus on the hillside of Spain.
The most outstanding peaks of the Pyrenees have more than 3000 meters of altitude, the
Aneto (3404 m), the Posets (3375 m), the Monte Perdido (3355 m), the Pico Maldito (3350
m), the Pico Espadas ( 3332 m), the Vignemale (3298 m) and the Pica d'Estats (3143 m), a
paradise for mountaineers.
This mountain range also has small glaciers, lakes and cirques of glacial origin, and many
valleys and canyons, a great place for those who like hiking.
From the Cantabrian Sea to the Mediterranean, the mountain range of the Pyrenees rises as an
immense natural barrier between Spain and the rest of the continent. Its domains extend
along 450 kilometers of summits that reach 3,000 meters of altitude, lush valleys and
picturesque centenary localities. Meeting point of diverse cultures and gateway to the Camino
de Santiago, the Pyrenees hide countless treasures to be discovered in each of the autonomous
communities that share it: Navarre, Aragon and Catalonia.A must in your stay in the Pyrenees
is that of the National Park of Ordesa and Monte Perdido, it is one of the fifteen spaces that
make up the Spanish National Parks Network; It was declared as such on August 16, 1918 and
expanded in 1982. The year 2018 was its centenary.
I hope you are encouraged to visit this beautiful environment
National Park of Ordesa and the lost Mont
One of the points that you should not miss from your visit to the Pyrenees is the National Park
of Ordesa and Monte Perdido, one of the most important conservation areas of the Spanish
National Parks Network.
This region is so important and has so many natural elements that it is not only a natural park
but also belongs to the UNESCO World Geopark "Sobrarbe-Pirineos" for its incredible geology,
it is part of the "Ordesa-Viñamala Biosphere Reserve" "For its fauna and flora and for its
glaciers and its environment forms next to the parks of the glacial cirques of the Parc National
des Pyrénées, has been declared a World Heritage" Pyrenees-Monte Perdido "by UNESCO.
Its area of influence includes the municipalities of Torla, Broto, Fanlo, Tella-Sin, Puértolas and
Bielsa.
In the highlands the extreme dryness of the karst deserts predominates, where rainwater and
melting water seep under the ground through cracks and sinkholes. And in the valleys, the
water is always present, jumping in the form of waterfalls and ravines covered by exuberant
vegetation.
Four valleys and a central mountain massif, make up this natural space of extensive history.
The great diversity of environments and landscapes was once extolled by illustrious figures
such as Louis Ramond de Carbonnières, Soler i Santaló, Lucien Briet, Ricardo del Arco, Lucas
Mallada, Franz Schrader, and many others.
Among the inhabitants that we must highlight are The snowy partridge, the lammergeier or
the endemic Pyrenean frog, living representatives of a national park of the mountains with
rocks of high sedimentary origin in the Alpine fold.
Some places of high mountain are very emblematic, as in the case of the Gap of Rolando,
natural gate at 2,800 m. of altitude that opens the borders with the National Park of the
Pyrenees in France. Snow, glaciers, beech and fir forests, waterfalls at the bottom of the valleys
and high deserts make up these landscapes.
Mountain scenarios that are the destination of thousands of hikers and mountaineers who
follow the path undertaken centuries ago by the first Pyrenees, in respect for nature through
their knowledge.
The Monte Perdido massif dominates its orography, 3,348 m, being the highest calcareous
mountain massif of Western Europe, with the tops of the Three Sorors or Treserols: Monte
Perdido, Cilindro, and Pico de Añisclo -Soum de Ramond-, from where the valleys of Ordesa,
Añisclo, Escuaín and Pineta, carved by the respective waters of the Arazas, Bellós, Yaga and
Cinca rivers, are derived by way of arms. The complicated geological and morphological
history, together with a unique climate, have resulted in a high altitude and the presence of
steep slopes. The landscape shows great contrasts.
El Valle de Arán
One of the most known regions of the Pyrenees is the Valley of Arán or Arán (officially in
Occitan Val d'Aran, and in Catalan Vall d'Aran), It is interesting that it has three names since in
this region three co-official languages coexist : Catalan, Castilian and the proper language of
the Aranese area coming from the Occitan vernacular and a curiosity to visit this beautiful
mountainous region.
Valle de Arán is a Spanish region located on the northern slope of the. Administratively
belongs to the province of Lérida, autonomous community of Catalonia.
The region is in the central Pyrenees, belongs to Lérida has the department of Haute Garonne
in France to the north, to the southwest with the Aragonese region of Ribagorza, Huesca, to
the south with the Catalan region of Alta Ribagorza its capital is Viella Mitg Aran,
headquarters of its own autonomous government, the General Council of Aran.
Interestingly Val d'Aran is Aranese means Valle del Valle but in two different languages (val
means valley in Aranese and Aran, also means valley of Euskera Haran,)
It is a very high region with 30% of the territory above 2000 meters of altitude, like the
Mieidia mountain, of about 2,191 meters.
The Val d'Aran is a great place for climbers and skiers for its great mountains
La Besiberri Norte (3,015 m) - Located on the border between the regions of the Aran Valley
and the Alta Ribagorza, both in the province of Lleida.
The peak of Mulleres (3,013 m) - Located on the border between the provinces of Lleida and
Huesca.
The spectacular Gran Tuc de Colomers (2,933 m) - Located on the border between the regions
of Valle de Arán, Alta Ribagorza and Pallars Sobirá, all three in the province of Lleida. And the
Mauberme peaks (2,880 m) - Located on the border between Spain and France and Montardo
(2,833 m) - Located in the Municipality of Alto Arán.
A lot of activities can be done in this natural environment from hiking in the mountains,
climbing, sky or even raffting in the alpine rivers.
Baqueira Beret is one of the most famous ski stations is located in Valle d'Arán .
The photographs of the valley are beautiful because they look like layers like this. The slopes
of the mountains - between 1000 and 2000 meters - are covered with forests. In the lower
altitude areas there are wild pines and beech trees, which give way to the firs and black pines
in the higher altitude areas. Above the forest area there are alpine meadows and above we find
the snows and slag heaps.
At a natural level, the valley is a refuge where there are still several species of animals in
danger of extinction, such as the brown bear (Ursus arctos), the white partridge (Lagopus
mutus), the endemism of the Aranese lizard (Iberolacerta aranica). or the Lord of the heavens
and a whole picture in the Aranese Pyrenees the Bearded Vulture (Gypaetus barbatus)
A place you should not miss is the spectacular Colomer del Colomer.
I hope you like this post!
Alto Arán
The landscape in Alto Arán in winter is spectacular, it moves us to much more northern areas
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_moLH2pP_mk
Alto Arán is a municipality of Valle de Arán, in the province of Lleida, in Catalonia, Spain. It was
formed in 1967 by the merger of Arties, Salardú, Gesa, Tredós and Bagergue. It is the most
extensive municipality of the entire Aran Valley.
The capital is the town of Salardú and includes nine municipal entities: Artiés, Bagergue,
Garós, Gessa, Montgarri, Salardú, Tredós, Uña and Baqueira.
Access to the municipality from the south face of the Pyrenees is done by the road that crosses
the Port of Bonaigua. In the municipality of Alto Arán, there is the ski resort of Baqueira Beret,
one of the largest in the Pyrenees.
Salardú
Salardú is the capital of the municipality of Alto Arán located in Valle de Arán in the province
of Lérida, autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvvd7AW525o
It is located on the right bank of the Garonne River at the confluence with the Unhòla River, it
is crossed by the autonomic road (C-28) that connects Viella with Esterri d'Àneu through the
Bonaigua port. The town of Salardú is 4 kilometers from the ski resort of Baqueira Beret.
Garós
Garós is a small village in the Pyrenees in the Alto Arán that seems to have been taken from
another era in which, in the center of the historical nucleus, stands out the parish church of
San Julián de Garós (in Catalan, Sant Julià de Garòs), of Romanesque origin , thoroughly
renovated in the fifteenth century.
The bell tower dates from 1619 and is so wide that it looks like a defense tower1774, and it
keeps an interesting carving Christ, a Gothic image of the Virgin and a silver processional cross
Two big days of the town that you should not miss if you walk nearby: The main festival is
celebrated on August 16th by San Roque and on August 28th by San Julián.
The landscape in Garós in winter is spectacular.

Sallent de Gállego
On the banks of the Lanuza Reservoir and at the foot of the highest peaks of the mountain
range, we find the beautiful village of Sallent de Gállego very close to the border with France.
Its term constitutes the capital of the Tena Valley.
Sallent de Gállego or Sallén de Galligo in Aragon belongs to the region of Alto Gállego, north of
the province of Huesca, autonomous community of Aragon.
Alto Gállego, Huesca Aragonese Pyrenees, Pyrenean Glaciers.
Sallent de Gállego is a typical Aragonese Pyrenees village that has managed to keep its style
and heritage with a Gothic church, from the early sixteenth century, which houses a valuable
plateresque altarpiece.
Initially it was a village of realengo, happening, later, to be secular manor of the well-known
Lanuza family.
Formerly and next to Lanuza it formed the call Quiñón de Sallent, one of the three historical
territories in which the valley was administratively divided.
Part of its municipal district is occupied by the Natural Monument of the Pyrenean Glaciers.
Very close to Sallent de Gállego is Formigal, one of the best ski resorts in the Pyrenees.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjGlZcNAjHE
As we said before Sallent has a heritage care as for example, The Gothic church of the
Assumption, of the early sixteenth century, which houses a valuable plateresque altarpiece
and the venerated image of the Virgen de las Nieves is one of the main artistic attractions of
Sallent and it is declared a good cultural interest.
It also highlights the so-called Roman Bridge, a medieval construction of the sixteenth century
that saves the course of the Clean Water in the middle of the population, as well as the
innumerable houses with coats of arms that dot the colorful sallentino old town. In the center
of the village also stands the popular Mentidero: a large covered bench and open to the street
that still use the neighbors and visitors as a meeting place.
In Formigal, the small Mozarabic church of Salvador de Basarán (10th century, rebuilt in
1972) contrasts with the modernity of the buildings of the ski resort.

In the beautiful landscapes of Valle de Tena in Huesca, we find this ski station, one of the most
famous in Spain.
Aramón Formigal is a ski resort located in the Pyrenean municipality of Sallent de Gállego, in
the area of Formigal, next to the urbanization of the same name, in Huesca (Spain).
The original nucleus of the station arose around the valley of Izas, although the first
extensions would be towards the south. The following extensions would be towards the north,
towards the border with France, opening the station to the valleys of "Anayet" (1997) and
"Portalet" (2006).
With the extension made for the 2007-2008 season, this station has 137 kilometers of tracks,
1 toboggan run, 1 racket circuit and new itineraries off-piste. In addition, like all the stations
of Aramón, it has a great variety of restaurants in which a varied gastronomy is offered. The
après-Ski is offered mainly by Marchica, a party room with a large outdoor terrace located at
the foot of the slopes in the area of Sextas that is open until 9:00 p.m. in which concerts and DJ
performances are usually held. 'S.
The station is divided into four major sectors: Tres Hombres (Sextas), Sarrios, Anayet and
Portalet. Each area is accessible by car and by a bus service (the bus does not go up to the
Sarrios sector). The base of each valley has a parking lot and a service area, from where the
chairlifts leave.
For the safety issue In 2008, a new avalanche
prevention system came into service.
In 2014 it joins with the neighboring Aramón
Panticosa station, forming the Aramón Formigal -
Panticosa winter complex
It offers the usual services of a ski resort: ski lifts
(with a capacity of 35,920 skiers per hour),
infirmary, ski school, equipment rental, catering,
etc.
It also has 3 special tracks: Snow Park, Video Slalom and Tubers.
As of 2006, activities begin in the summer in the Anayet area with an operating chairlift and
the installation of a playground. In addition, the old gondola has been replaced by a chairlift.

Pyrenees, aAran valley, Baqueira, sallent, formigal and other sky resorts

  • 2. In this guide we will know the Pyrenees or the Pyrenees a mountain range located north of the Iberian Peninsula, which acts as a natural border between Spain and France and has a million things to do and see. It extends east-west along 430 km, from Cape Creus in the Mediterranean Sea to its union with the Cantabrian mountain range, where the Pamplona fault has been established as its conventional geological limit, there being no geographical interruption between both formations. In its central part it has a width of about 150 km. It has several areas, the French part extends on the northern slope, through the French regions of New Aquitaine and Occitania. On the southern slope by the Spanish autonomous communities of the Basque Country, Navarre, Aragon and Catalonia. The small country of Andorra is nestled in the mountain range. Although in this blog we are going to focus on the hillside of Spain. The most outstanding peaks of the Pyrenees have more than 3000 meters of altitude, the Aneto (3404 m), the Posets (3375 m), the Monte Perdido (3355 m), the Pico Maldito (3350 m), the Pico Espadas ( 3332 m), the Vignemale (3298 m) and the Pica d'Estats (3143 m), a paradise for mountaineers. This mountain range also has small glaciers, lakes and cirques of glacial origin, and many valleys and canyons, a great place for those who like hiking. From the Cantabrian Sea to the Mediterranean, the mountain range of the Pyrenees rises as an immense natural barrier between Spain and the rest of the continent. Its domains extend along 450 kilometers of summits that reach 3,000 meters of altitude, lush valleys and picturesque centenary localities. Meeting point of diverse cultures and gateway to the Camino de Santiago, the Pyrenees hide countless treasures to be discovered in each of the autonomous communities that share it: Navarre, Aragon and Catalonia.A must in your stay in the Pyrenees is that of the National Park of Ordesa and Monte Perdido, it is one of the fifteen spaces that
  • 3. make up the Spanish National Parks Network; It was declared as such on August 16, 1918 and expanded in 1982. The year 2018 was its centenary. I hope you are encouraged to visit this beautiful environment National Park of Ordesa and the lost Mont One of the points that you should not miss from your visit to the Pyrenees is the National Park of Ordesa and Monte Perdido, one of the most important conservation areas of the Spanish National Parks Network. This region is so important and has so many natural elements that it is not only a natural park but also belongs to the UNESCO World Geopark "Sobrarbe-Pirineos" for its incredible geology, it is part of the "Ordesa-Viñamala Biosphere Reserve" "For its fauna and flora and for its glaciers and its environment forms next to the parks of the glacial cirques of the Parc National des Pyrénées, has been declared a World Heritage" Pyrenees-Monte Perdido "by UNESCO. Its area of influence includes the municipalities of Torla, Broto, Fanlo, Tella-Sin, Puértolas and Bielsa. In the highlands the extreme dryness of the karst deserts predominates, where rainwater and melting water seep under the ground through cracks and sinkholes. And in the valleys, the water is always present, jumping in the form of waterfalls and ravines covered by exuberant vegetation. Four valleys and a central mountain massif, make up this natural space of extensive history. The great diversity of environments and landscapes was once extolled by illustrious figures
  • 4. such as Louis Ramond de Carbonnières, Soler i Santaló, Lucien Briet, Ricardo del Arco, Lucas Mallada, Franz Schrader, and many others. Among the inhabitants that we must highlight are The snowy partridge, the lammergeier or the endemic Pyrenean frog, living representatives of a national park of the mountains with rocks of high sedimentary origin in the Alpine fold. Some places of high mountain are very emblematic, as in the case of the Gap of Rolando, natural gate at 2,800 m. of altitude that opens the borders with the National Park of the Pyrenees in France. Snow, glaciers, beech and fir forests, waterfalls at the bottom of the valleys and high deserts make up these landscapes. Mountain scenarios that are the destination of thousands of hikers and mountaineers who follow the path undertaken centuries ago by the first Pyrenees, in respect for nature through their knowledge. The Monte Perdido massif dominates its orography, 3,348 m, being the highest calcareous mountain massif of Western Europe, with the tops of the Three Sorors or Treserols: Monte Perdido, Cilindro, and Pico de Añisclo -Soum de Ramond-, from where the valleys of Ordesa, Añisclo, Escuaín and Pineta, carved by the respective waters of the Arazas, Bellós, Yaga and Cinca rivers, are derived by way of arms. The complicated geological and morphological history, together with a unique climate, have resulted in a high altitude and the presence of steep slopes. The landscape shows great contrasts. El Valle de Arán One of the most known regions of the Pyrenees is the Valley of Arán or Arán (officially in Occitan Val d'Aran, and in Catalan Vall d'Aran), It is interesting that it has three names since in this region three co-official languages coexist : Catalan, Castilian and the proper language of the Aranese area coming from the Occitan vernacular and a curiosity to visit this beautiful mountainous region.
  • 5. Valle de Arán is a Spanish region located on the northern slope of the. Administratively belongs to the province of Lérida, autonomous community of Catalonia. The region is in the central Pyrenees, belongs to Lérida has the department of Haute Garonne in France to the north, to the southwest with the Aragonese region of Ribagorza, Huesca, to the south with the Catalan region of Alta Ribagorza its capital is Viella Mitg Aran, headquarters of its own autonomous government, the General Council of Aran. Interestingly Val d'Aran is Aranese means Valle del Valle but in two different languages (val means valley in Aranese and Aran, also means valley of Euskera Haran,) It is a very high region with 30% of the territory above 2000 meters of altitude, like the Mieidia mountain, of about 2,191 meters. The Val d'Aran is a great place for climbers and skiers for its great mountains La Besiberri Norte (3,015 m) - Located on the border between the regions of the Aran Valley and the Alta Ribagorza, both in the province of Lleida. The peak of Mulleres (3,013 m) - Located on the border between the provinces of Lleida and Huesca. The spectacular Gran Tuc de Colomers (2,933 m) - Located on the border between the regions of Valle de Arán, Alta Ribagorza and Pallars Sobirá, all three in the province of Lleida. And the Mauberme peaks (2,880 m) - Located on the border between Spain and France and Montardo (2,833 m) - Located in the Municipality of Alto Arán. A lot of activities can be done in this natural environment from hiking in the mountains, climbing, sky or even raffting in the alpine rivers. Baqueira Beret is one of the most famous ski stations is located in Valle d'Arán . The photographs of the valley are beautiful because they look like layers like this. The slopes of the mountains - between 1000 and 2000 meters - are covered with forests. In the lower altitude areas there are wild pines and beech trees, which give way to the firs and black pines in the higher altitude areas. Above the forest area there are alpine meadows and above we find the snows and slag heaps. At a natural level, the valley is a refuge where there are still several species of animals in danger of extinction, such as the brown bear (Ursus arctos), the white partridge (Lagopus mutus), the endemism of the Aranese lizard (Iberolacerta aranica). or the Lord of the heavens and a whole picture in the Aranese Pyrenees the Bearded Vulture (Gypaetus barbatus) A place you should not miss is the spectacular Colomer del Colomer. I hope you like this post!

Sallent de Gállego is a typical Aragonese Pyrenees village that has managed to keep its style and heritage with a Gothic church, from the early sixteenth century, which houses a valuable plateresque altarpiece.
  • 8. Initially it was a village of realengo, happening, later, to be secular manor of the well-known Lanuza family. Formerly and next to Lanuza it formed the call Quiñón de Sallent, one of the three historical territories in which the valley was administratively divided. Part of its municipal district is occupied by the Natural Monument of the Pyrenean Glaciers. Very close to Sallent de Gállego is Formigal, one of the best ski resorts in the Pyrenees. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjGlZcNAjHE As we said before Sallent has a heritage care as for example, The Gothic church of the Assumption, of the early sixteenth century, which houses a valuable plateresque altarpiece and the venerated image of the Virgen de las Nieves is one of the main artistic attractions of Sallent and it is declared a good cultural interest. It also highlights the so-called Roman Bridge, a medieval construction of the sixteenth century that saves the course of the Clean Water in the middle of the population, as well as the innumerable houses with coats of arms that dot the colorful sallentino old town. In the center of the village also stands the popular Mentidero: a large covered bench and open to the street that still use the neighbors and visitors as a meeting place. In Formigal, the small Mozarabic church of Salvador de Basarán (10th century, rebuilt in 1972) contrasts with the modernity of the buildings of the ski resort.
