                     ORIENTAL TRADING COMPANY GIVES HOLIDAY HELP

             Employees beat their personal giving record by 20% over last year!

OMAHA, NE, Dec. 17, 2009 – With an increase in need at Food Bank for the Heartland in
excess of 30-percent compared to a year ago, Oriental Trading Company stepped forward with
a generous donation of 13,825 pounds of food. This total surpassed Oriental Trading
Company’s donation last year by more than 20%.

The food items came from approximately 2,000 Oriental Trading Company employees on
Friday, December 11 and Saturday, December 12. The Food Bank was the beneficiary of
Oriental Trading Company’s annual employee holiday sale. Employees were encouraged to
bring non-perishable food items in exchange for credit to purchase holiday gifts.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of Oriental Trading Company employees,” said Food
Bank President and CEO Susan Ogborn. “We have seen a significant increase in the number
of people needing our services and Oriental Trading Company is helping us address the higher
demand.”

During last year’s holiday employee sale Oriental Trading Company donated 11,627 pounds of
food.

The Food Bank is a private 501© (3) nonprofit organization that acts as a central clearinghouse
through which the food industry and community may donate surplus food to feed hungry
individuals, families and children. Food is distributed to more than 360 member agencies in 77
counties in Nebraska and 16 counties in western Iowa. Annually, The Food Bank distributes six
million pounds of product -helping to feed over 300,000 people in need in the Heartland.
