Teen obesity poses serious health risks such as type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease, heart attack, and some cancers. Nutritional causes include poor food choices, larger portion sizes, and increased soft drink consumption. Physical inactivity has also increased as teens spend more time indoors using technology. To combat obesity, teens should get at least 60 minutes of physical activity daily, improve their nutrition through smaller portions and healthier choices, and get friends involved in active programs.
