2. The Great Storm story of '1700 unaccounted for' went around
the world via Reuters and Press Association. By Monday
morning there were 2,000+ articles world wide and all 7 UK
national dailies carried the story, some of it critical.
The most remarkable part of the story is what the press didn't wish to say.
Our event competitors turned around to the press and said "you have got it
wrong, we like doing this and the event was great".The press said it was the
'toughest mountain marathon in the world' our competitors said they wanted
to continue day two.
The support we had was amazing and it proved we don't merely have
customers out there but a strong community of activists with a passion for
and a warm feeling towards our event.
Activists who are outdoor endurance athletes as well as climbers, skiers
and backpackers.
We intend to build on that relationship and this leaflet is our first small step.
This next step is taken alongside our new partners, ARK group, who bring
much expertise, sales and distribution strength to the OMM.

Mountain Marathons are just one of the many different types of
outdoor events which are undergoing strong growth. Ultra, sky,
trail and fell running are amongst these events and as we enter
multi-sport and bike then the list is huge.
Mountains, bad weather and personal safety aspects are an
important part of these activities.
Writing the rules; setting the standards.
As the organiser of the first ever mountain marathon in
1968 our rules have moulded all others following. Our goal
is to design and develop a small tight compact range of
lightweight garments which we can not only recommend
as event approved but will set standards which others
measure against for lightweight garments and gear.

OMM Garment Overview OMM Kamleika Race Smock
For Autumn 09 we have significantly updated our Kamleika range of garments, improving
their aesthetic appeal and technical performance whilst retaining the incredible comfort
of the existing range. Kamleikas are pitched at the upper performance end of running/
cycling garments with a good all weather hood.
GELANOTS™ FABRIC
These garments are lightweight but not the very lightest around. That’s because we have
selected the stretch GELANOTS® fabric which makes the garments silent in use and very
comfortable. That’s important in a top but even more important in pants. Which is why we
sell as many pants as tops.
HOW THE GELANOTS™ FABRIC WORKS
About MVTR or ‘breathability’ as its often called. GELANOTS® fabric MVTR rating is
up there amongst the better but not the very best. What counts in practice however
is apparent or visual sweat on the inside of the garment and the new grey inner finish
improves that by reducing clamminess.
Here’s what we say about it in consumer communications.
1. It’s an elastomeric (means stretchy) hydrophilic laminate bonded to a knitted outer
(which is unusual)
2. The hydrophilic laminate ‘breathes’ well and better still because of the knitted outer (i.e.
more open than weave structure).
3. It stretches i.e. elongates because of its knitted outer and recovers shape because of
the elastomeric laminate.
4. Results:- breathability is good and the garment is silent in use. ‘The tops are good but
the pants are just magic’.
TAPING
New narrower seam seal tape with improved stretch and reduced weight, breathability
increased, garment stretch maximised.
ZIPS
Race Smock Jacket utilise water resistant zips, improving foul weather performance.
NEW CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES
Laser cutting and bonding used to significantly improve weather resistance in key areas
such as zip openings, pockets and hoods, without increasing bulk and weight.
THE MEANING AND INSPIRATION OF KAMLEIKA.

Everyone knows the words Parka and Anorak, words taken from the Alaskan and
Greenland Eskimo languages respectively; meaning a warm hooded jacket. The Aleuts
near neighbours of the Alaskans, had much wetter conditions, being located in the
oceans islands south of the Bering straits. They named their hooded, stretchy, seam
sealed and fully waterproof garments: Kamleika.
