8-ball is a standard pool game, but not everyone may know the official rules. At the end of the day though, it's your house...YOUR RULES! http://www.greatersouthern.com/how-to-play/how-to-play-pool/
2. + About 8-Ball
8-Ball, eight-ball, solids
and stripes, spots and
stripes…however you
want to call it, the game
is played the same!
3. + How to Set Up 8-Ball
The game consists of 16 balls (7 solid, 7 stripes, a
white cue ball and the black eight ball)
Place all of the balls into the triangular rack.
There is a certain order in which the balls should be
placed…

4. + How to Play Start the game by “breaking.”
One player strikes the cue ball from
the opposite end of the table
towards the racked balls, breaking
them apart to
begin the game.
The breaker is
chosen randomly.
The cue ball
may be placed
in any position
as long as it’s in
the “kitchen”
or behind the
head string.
Start the game!
5. + How to Play The shooter must make a legal
break (pocketing a ball or at least
four balls hitting cushions). If not,
opponent can ask for a re-rack or
choose to play from current
position of the balls.
The suite of the first ball knocked in
determines which group each
player is assigned.
Players take turns shooting, trying
to hit their group (solid or stripes)
of balls into the holes. If a shooter
fails to hit a ball in, it becomes the
opponent’s turn to try.
6. + Fouls
If a player fails to hit one or more of his or her balls
with the cue ball prior to other balls being hit.
If NO ball hits a cushion or a ball is not pocketed.
A player must have a foot on the ground at ALL times unless disabled or the venue
failed to provide a mechanical bridge.
A player must wait until all of the balls have come to a complete stop before hitting
the cue ball.
If a player makes the cue ball jump over an obstructing ball.
If a player touches any of the balls besides in the action of moving the cue ball.
If A ball leaves the table.
If a player shoots out of turn
If the 8 ball is pocketed “out of turn” or prior to the player sinking all of his/her
suite, this results in a loss of game
7. + Winning
The winner must hit all of his or
her balls into pockets and the 8-
ball must be pocketed last.
When a player is setting up to hit
the 8-ball, he or she must
designate which pocket where
they want to sink the ball.
Failure to call a pocket will result
in a loss.
If the player calls a pocket and
the 8-ball goes into a different
pocket, this too will result in a
loss.
If a player scratches the cue ball
while attempting to sink the 8-ball,
this will result in a loss.

8. + What makes this game so broadly appealing, is that
there are so many variations of how to play.
So in the end…
Your house, your rules!!
