Knotweed ASBOs
Excuse the slightly off-topic subject but these days we are all covering a
lot of ground!
You may recall the surprising and some might say facile new guidance
concerning knotweed in England issued in 2014
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/364846/Japanese_Knot
weed_information_note.pdf
where the government advised that "local councils and the police (in most
cases it will be the local council) will have the power to issue [community
protection notice (ASBOs)] for invasive non-native species like Japanese
knotweed."
My understanding is that this is a power which has yet to be exercised for
obvious reasons. Is anyone aware of any instance where this has actually been
implemented, and has any authority made any policy decision about this?
