Kyle Goodall is recommended for consideration without reservation. Kyle took a class that trained students to facilitate inter-group dialogue, which deepened his commitment to the process and increased his skills. He then enrolled in a practicum where he co-facilitated weekly dialogue sessions on social identity and social justice with a co-facilitator who was different from him in many ways. Kyle navigated sharing leadership with his co-facilitator successfully. His work as a co-facilitator was outstanding and demonstrated his promise for future endeavors applying his skills to fight all forms of oppression.

To Whom It May Concern:
I am pleased to recommend Kyle Goodall for your consideration. I have known Kyle for over about two
years, beginning when he enrolled in a class I was team-teaching that trained students to facilitate inter-
group dialogue. Kyle’s earlier experience participating in dialogue had developed his commitment ot the
process; his work during the semester helped to deepen his commitment and increase his skills, allowing
him to function as a facilitator for inter-group dialogue, and approach to communication about sexism,
racism and heterosexism, classism – in short, all forms of oppression.
After the facilitation class, Kyle enrolled in a practicum I taught; in that role he worked with a co-
facilitator throughout the semester leading a group of students (enrolled in a class taught by Dr. Ulana
Klymyshyn) in conversations about social identity and social justice. I met with Kyle and his co-
facilitator on a weekly basis to discuss issues that arose during those sessions, read his plans for
upcoming dialogue sessions, and observed their facilitation performance.
Kyle’s work as a co-facilitator was outstanding. The behaviors I observed suggest his promise in future
endeavors. Kyle’s co-facilitator was different from him in most every way aside from their shared
commitments to the dialogue process and social justice issues. He worked with her closely and
successfully. It is not often that two college students are asked to take such an important leadership role
and then to share it with another person. Navigating a tightrope that connects the need for individual
responsibility and respect for and flexibility with another team member might best describe the task that
Kyle mastered. These skills are essential in fields of diversity-related work, and Kyle has demonstrated
his ability and eagerness to use them to fight every form of oppression.
Kyle’s resume makes clear his penchant for seizing opportunities that broaden his experiences and enrich
his skills set. He is not frightened of what is strange but rather tackles those topics to become comfortable
in a range of situations. That is evident in his study abroad in Finland, China and Germany; his work with
the Focus Hope program in Detroit; his service as a Multicultural Advisor at Central Michigan
University. Your support would allow him to increase his experiences, ultimately adding to his potential
to put his skills into action in additional settings.
I recommend Kyle without reservation.
Sincerely,
Dr. Mary Ann Renz
