Anselm prays to God to help him know and love God fully so that he may find true joy. He asks to gradually gain more knowledge and love of God in this life and for it to be made complete in the next life. Anselm wants his hope in God to bring him great joy now and for his joy to be made fully real in heaven. He prays that God will help him receive what was promised so that his joy may be complete, as Jesus counseled, and for his whole being to desire God until entering fully into the joy of the Lord.
