Windows 8 - Coming to TVDSB
 Windows XP Operating System was released in 2001
 30,000 computers being upgraded to Windows 8
 Important modernization initiative will provide staff and
students with access to latest Microsoft Operating System
currently used in post-secondary, business and industry
settings
Benefits
 Computers will operate faster and more efficiently
 More powerful applications can be used
 Advanced support for mobile devices
 Ability to utilize touch devices
 Increased security and protection from viruses
Anticipated Timelines
 Begin in April 2014
 Completion in June 2014
 All remaining computers by September 2014

Business Applications
 Departments have been asked to submit a list of
required applications
 Windows 8 computers will be made available to all
departments for testing
 Applications need to be verified for Windows 8
compatibility by March 31
Migration Timelines
 Client Services will notify you when Windows 8 will be
deployed to your department
 Beginning in April
 Target completion June 30th
Back Up Your Files
 All files saved on the C: drive must be backed-up
PRIOR to Windows 8 deployment
 Back up (save) all of your files to the S: drive
 Instructions provided on the Support Material web
page
Next Steps for Departments
 Communicate Information Package to your department
 Ensure department staff test applications by March 31st
 Report issues with application to I.T.S. (HEAT ticket)
 Back up all files
