3. HABITAT
• The salmon live in streams , waterfalls
, oceans and seas are their homes. They
live in places that are salt-water. The
seabed is rocks and gravel. It will adapt to
salt water in 1-7 years.
4. Food
• Salmon are carnivores. They eat fish( like
herring and pilchard). They eat squid and
sometimes baby crabs. They have a food sac
attached to their bellies when they are born.
The sac gives them food for a few days.
5. ENEMIES
Otters , bears , kingfishers , wolves , wading
birds, bigger fish and humans are some of the
predators of the salmon. Humans don’t just eat
the salmon, but they litter the surface ,too.
6. Babies
The mother lays the eggs under gravel. Baby
salmons are called embryos .1,200 eggs are laid.
After the mother lays the eggs, she leaves the
eggs and then dies. The babies then look after
themselves.
7. Interesting Facts
The salmon can change colour. Salmon can
swim 14 km per hour. Chinook and king salmon
can weigh up to 100 pounds!
