3. Synopsis
• Takes place during the civil war of El Salvador
• Follows the story of a young boy, Chava who
avoids being taken and joins the guerilla
against the government
• After barely escaping death, his mother sends
him to the United States until the war is over

• Government rounded up 12 year old boys
• The war ended in 1992, but the problem of
child soldiers is still widespread
• Torres wrote the movie to tell “the voices of
the innocent”
