Möbius, The Poetry Magazine seeks emerging and established poets for the Fall
2015 issue, the theme of which is migration, community, and resilience.
Submission guidelines are attached to this document. The deadline for
submissions is July 31st.

Möbius, The Poetry Magazine has a 32-year history of publishing poems by
influential artists. For example, the work of four United States Poets Laureate
appeared in the magazine’s 30th anniversary issue: Billy Collins, Rita Dove,
Charles Simic, and Natasha Trethewey.
Let me tell you a bit more about this grassroots publication located online at
mobiuspoetry.org.
Möbius, The Poetry Magazine, published annually, was founded in 1982 in Lake
Orion, Michigan by a group of artists who wanted to publish creative writing. As
the magazine grew, Jean Hull Herman of Detroit was asked to become the first
Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Möbius, The Poetry Magazine. She edited the
publication in Michigan and in Delaware prior to transitioning the magazine to
new leadership when Juanita Torrence-Thompson, of New York became
Publisher and EIC in 2006. Mrs. Torrence-Thompson celebrated the longevity of

2. the publication at several New York locations including the Episcopal Actors
Guild in New York City and the New York City Baha’i Center.
Known for publishing poetry from emerging poets and artists and outstanding
professional poets and artists from across the globe, Möbius, The Poetry Magazine
transitions from New York to Los Angeles under my leadership.
Möbius, The Poetry Magazine, is an internationally acclaimed publication. Writers
who have appeared in the magazine include: Nikki Giovanni, Marge Piercy,
Robert Bly, Sonia Sanchez, Naomi Shihab Nye, Cornelius Eady, Elizabeth
Alexander, Colette Inez, Yusef Komunyakaa, Diane Wakoski, Samuel Menashe,
Maurice Kenny, Simon Perchik, Lyn Lifshin, Duane Niatum, Joseph Bruchac, Ed
Galing, Daniela Gioseffi, Louis Reyes Rivera, Hal Sirowitz, Stephen Stepanchev,
Tammy Nuzzo-Morgan, Daniel Thomas Moran, and A.D. Winans.
The editorial team at Möbius, The Poetry Magazine invites artists to reflect on the
theme of migration, community, and resilience, and send us up to three poems
for consideration.

Submit up to a total of three best original poems and/or artwork (photography) for
consideration in the print edition of the 2015 issue of Möbius, The Poetry Magazine.
Selected poems may also appear on this website and on the blog: www.mobiuspoetry.org.
The Submission Period is May 15-through-July 31st. Poems submitted after July 31st will
not be read. Likewise, poems submitted prior to May 15th will not be read.
Theme: "Migration, community and resilience"
Möbius, The Poetry Magazine seeks original poems for the 2015 issue on the theme of migration,
community, and resiliency. The theme of migration, as in transition from one place to another, or
evolutionary change, or the process of change. This kind of change, whether it be in location, or on a bio-
cellular level, has both historical resonance and contemporary relevancy.
Migration, community, and resiliency are an apt pairing due to the emotional connections we as human
beings have toward spaces and places, and the trauma of in-group and out-group experience.
We seek to publish poems and artwork that reflect the experience of geographic change, geographic
divide, geographic isolation, and the potential to overcome adversity. Geographic relocation, a subject as
dramatic as nature, also presents the possibility of re-imagining/re-making community.
Guidelines for Writers:
We seek imaginative, innovative, image-driven, high-quality poetry and artwork. We welcome all poetic
forms, but encourage free verse, Sestina, haiku, and tanka. Poems must appeal to a general audience
(no erotica, no obscene language, no racial slurs, no lengthy poems). All poets and artists must include
contact information including mailing address, phone number, and email address.
Poets and artists must also submit a short, 250-word, or less, biography for publication.
Poems must:
• not be longer than 50 lines, nor more than 56 characters per line
• be the work of the author
• be single-spaced
• proofread for correct spelling and punctuation
• not have been previously published
• not have been submitted simultaneously
Other:
• Möbius acquires first rights, rights revert to poet after publication.
• Upon publication, contributor receives ONE free copy of the Möbius, The Poetry Magazine.
• Poems may appear on this website and on the website: www.mobiuspoetry.org, as well as in the print
form of the magazine.
• In the event that poems and artwork are selected for the print publication, writers and artists will be
contacted via email for their mailing information.
• It is important that the work submitted to this website and to the publication is the work of the author/
artists.
• It is important that email contact information for the author/artist is up-to-date.
