2. GLOBAL INVESTMENT IN AVIATION SUMMIT
DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, 28-29 JANUARY 2019
The Global Investment in Aviation
Summit, an initiative of the
General Civil Aviation Authority,
is a testament of how committed
UAE is, along with the rest of
you, to foster global investment
cooperation and partnership for
the advancement of the aviation
sector and for the greater benefit
of all.
UAE as a host for this prestigious
summit only reflects how its
achievements in the development
and modernization of aviation
infrastructure have impacted the
global sector. UAE will increase its
ambitions higher with more than
$23 billion investment in aviation
infrastructure to come. We
HE Eng. Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri
Minister of Economy
and Chairman of UAE-GCAA
#GIAS19
AT A GLANCE
expect that, over next few years,
aviation sector will contribute
to 20% of the UAE GDP while,
in 2018, it contributed to $80
billion, approximately 15% of the
UAE GDP.
Global Investment in Aviation
Summit is a global marketplace
for fostering investment for the
advancement of international
air navigation by encouraging
discussions, negotiations,
and agreements between
governments, business analysts,
investors and investees.
I enjoin you to be strategic
partners to UAE’s ambitions
and complete this journey with
us towards a bright future and
success. Our strategies don’t
stop after 2030 since UAE
aviation sector is in constant
and dynamic demand for pilots,
engineers, traffic controllers,
aviation doctors, maintenance
organisations, advanced air
navigation infrastructures and
emerging technologies. Join UAE
to achieve our goal to make
aviation a wonderful experience
for passengers with due
consideration to safety, security,
efficiency and environment
problematic. I look forward to
contributing to your insights and
experience on this complex issue
of creating the right incentives
to generate more investment in
aviation, and to fruitful outcomes
and projects.

3. H.E. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi
Director General
General Civil Aviation Authority
Before I deliver my closing remarks, I want to convey my thanks for all of those who made
this event possible.
I will start with my friends and brothers from the high-level dignitaries, Ministers, head of
delegations, and delegates from more than 80 States.
I will continue with thanking all valuable speakers, valuable sponsors, and my team who
have been behind GIAS for the last 6 months and who travelled around the Globe to bring
this variety of experiences and backgrounds represented here. Moreover, of course, I thank,
personally, all of you for attending this Summit and for your active engagement towards
more investment in Aviation.
Thank you for having made this Summit successful!
The huge reviews and attendances that this Summit has drawn to UAE are a testimony of
this success. HE Dr. Aliu President of ICAO Council has honored us with his presence to
foster a group of 825 delegates made of 08 Ministers, 14 Chairmen and DGs, 82 CEOs, and
more than 527 investors and investees to work together to feed aviation with more sources
of capital.
We are all united and bound by the same bold dream for aviation. As, we explore new
strategies in the aviation market, this Summit has reinforced the importance of bringing
new experiences, new perspectives and new investment opportunities to the aviation
community in areas such as:
a) Public-Private Partnership (PPP),
b) Urban space,
c) Aircraft manufacturing,
d) Training institutions,
e) Maintenance activities,
f) Airport infrastructures,
g) Emerging and Innovative technologies
h) All other ancillary services providers that are working hard to support the civil
aviation eco-system.
Moreover, I really appreciate the discussions, the negotiations and the agreements
that took place over the last 3 days. We, all, acknowledge that without the contribution
and commitment of the private sector the growth of the aviation sector cannot be
sustainable. Private sector is an essential pillar to ensure that tomorrow’s challenges
are addressed effectively.
We have also learnt that Government strategies are essential to ensure that a trust
framework is established between Governments, Investors and Investees. Participants
have presented many initiatives and many success stories to:
a) create a secure and stable environment;
b) facilitate the access to their market for a larger diversification of their economy;
c) encourage States towards reforms and modernization of their laws and policies
to meet investors’ expectations.
A transformation of the global aviation market is undergoing and the essence of
this unprecedented Summit is to accelerate the dynamic around secured and super
profitable investment trends. This Summit is the start of this global transformation!
It is very promising that we also give valuable consideration and attention to Small
and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). As per World Bank, SMEs play a major role in most
economies, particularly in developing countries. Formal SMEs contribute up to 60% of
total employment and up to 40% of national income (GDP) in emerging economies. We
must all commit to improving their access to finance and finding innovative solutions
to unlock sources of capital.
With that, I am proud to now conclude a great Summit. I hope you have found new
energy, partners, and ideas to take with you. But remember one thing, GIAS will
continue to be a resource for you and for this industry we all love!
GIAS is your marketplace! And as we all know, the work has just begun, I invite, all of
you from now, to join us on the 2020 Edition – just before Expo 2020.
Thank you again, and wish you all a safe return to your next destination.
