2. My Genre
• I am creating a short horror
• Horror has been a popular genre since the 1930’s with cult
classics such as Dracula and Frankenstein bringing the genre
to the for-front of our society.
• Pioneers in this Genre are Alfred Hitchcock and Brian De
Palma. Alfred Hitchcock in particular brought his own style to
the genre where viewers are made to identify with the
camera which moves in a way meant to mimic a person's gaze
and which forces viewers to engage in a form of voyeurism.
• The horror genre frightens its readers, inducing feelings of
tension and terror. Horror can be either supernatural or non-
supernatural.
3. Anticipated Audience
• I anticipated my audience to be middle aged men who have quite a
lot of time on their hands as I thought that horror was more of a
male genre that older men who might be bored of watching feature
length films may want a new experience. I also thought that they
might have more time on their hands to indulge in these kinds of
films.
• However, after doing some research I know realise that my
audience has a higher focus on younger males AND females from
16-30 as they enjoy testing their nerves against the suspense and
terror that some short horrors have to offer.
• But it would be wrong of me to suggest it is just a young people
who enjoy horrors as I still gained a high percent of middle aged
men who did enjoy watching short horrors.
4. Potential Screening
Opportunities
• There are many places and opportunities for me as a horror director to
screen my short film.
• Firstly, the internet: http://www.horror-movies.ca/ is a horror film forum
that also contains a short horror section where directors can upload their
films and gain feedback from horror enthusiasts all around the world.
There is also Vimeo. This is very similar to Youtube but only you can
upload your own films meaning you can also gain feedback on your own
work and of course I could always put my short on Youtube.
• The BFI in Southbank also hold screening for short film makers where
directors, film critics and random people can come to watch your film,
gain inspiration and perhaps offer you tips or compliments.
• Finally, I could opt to put my short horror “Paranoia” into the NYC horror
film festival. This is a great opportunity as many young and talented horror
film directors and producers and found and then have the chance to
become a big figure in the horror industry. http://www.nychorrorfest.com/
