• Nursery and childminder prices are similar to regional averages, while after-school childcare is generally about 10 per cent
cheaper. Holiday childcare tends to be 25-40 per cent more expensive than regional averages.
• East of England average prices are £110.92 per week for a part-time nursery place for a child under two, childminders = £4.85
per hour, after-school clubs = £49.46 per week and a holiday club = £111.13 per week.

• Childminder numbers have declined in recent years, which means that parents have less access to a flexible form of childcare.
• 3,636 two year olds were eligible for free early education in September 2014. Take up stood at 76 per cent of eligible children in
November 2014, significantly higher than regional (66 per cent) and national averages (60 per cent).
• This rural local authority has done well to find enough provision for two year old children who qualify for free early education.
There are pockets of deprivation in this local authority where childcare providers may also
have difficulty making enough money to stay in business, which means that some parents
who need childcare may struggle to find it.
