Fátima Dargam is a senior IT professional at SimTech
Simulation Technology and Coordinator of the EURO
Working Group on Decision Support Systems (EWG-
DSS). She joined SimTech in 1995, where she works on
research projects and development of application
software modules supporting computer-based
simulation. She holds a Ph.D. in Computer Sciences
(Logic and Automated Reasoning) from the
Department of Computing at Imperial College, London
(1996). She also holds a Master degree in Artificial
Intelligence from Instituto Militar de Engenharia (IME),
Rio de Janeiro (1989); an Engineering degree in
Electronics from Santa Ursula University (USU) in Rio
de Janeiro (1983); and a Bachelors degree (B.A.) in
English (Teaching Didactics & Literature) from USU, Rio
de Janeiro (1983). Fatima Dargam is a founding
member of the EURO Working Group on Decision
Support Systems (EWG-DSS) since 1989, and since
2007 she integrates its Coordination Board (http://ewgdss.wordpress.com/). She also
cooperates as senior research consultant with the Institute of Logic, Philosophy and
Theory of Science – ILTC, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil since 1988. She was head of the
Computer Graphics Division of the Informatics Group, in the Brazilian Naval Research
Institute (IPqM), in Rio de Janeiro (1983-1990). During this period, she worked with CAE-
CAD-CAM systems for electrical applications and also on research and development of
Expert Systems and Decision Support Systems. Fatima’s research interests reside mainly
in the development of intelligent, distributed and cooperative web-based decision
support systems for various applications; bridging the areas of knowledge management
and decision making. Other topics of her interest include: decision analysis; big data;
data analytics for decision making; social networks; ontology; belief revision and
updates; knowledge representation; non-monotonic reasoning; multi-agent systems;
expert systems as well as multi-criteria decision making and dynamic systems. She is
Associate Editor of the IJDSST International Journal of Decision Support Systems
Technology; and belongs to the Editorial Board of Journals in the area of Decision
Support Systems, like: IJDSS, IJDSST and IJASCA. She acts as referee for several IT, OR
and DSS Conferences and Journals, like: DSS/Elsevier, JDS, EJOR, CEJOR, ITOR, GRUP,
IJIDS, EJDP, IJITDM, IJDSST, IJASCA, JKMEIT, among others. As independent expert for
the EC European Commission since 2012, she has been involved in the assessment,
evaluation and review of several large-scale research & innovation projects, within FP7
