Umingan, Pangasinan and Hazel Jean Balisua Manantan of Sison, Pangasinan. The family is
now residing on a two-bedroom rented apartment in our family compound here in Rosales,
Pangasinan. The couple were married on April 27, 2009. After almost two years, Naomi was
born on January 31, 2011 at Saint Louis Hospital in Baguio City. Her father takes care of her
while waiting for his working visa abroad, while her mother who is a preschool teacher is now on
maternal leave as she is six months pregnant and is expecting their second daughter this
coming February.
Yumi as she is fondly called uttered her first words before her first birthday as her
mother remembers. She has more vocabulary words, and makes gestures or actions when
ordered such as ‘close-open’,” “beautiful eyes,” and even “Mr. Pogi.” They talk with her in
Filipino and she replies in the same language.
Yumi plays with her four-year old cousin, Hannah and two-year old neighbour Rhygen
when they come visit her. When she is alone she plays with her stuffed animals. She talks with
and replies as “Pooh” and rides her “Horse” a red plastic reindeer. She has several illustrated
boardbooks which includes: “The Alphabet,” “My Little Bible,” and “I Can Sign” which features
animals. It comes with a DVD which plays animal sounds. She is also fond of watching “Barney”
and “Magic English” DVDs which she sings and recites with. She also watches “Eat Bulaga” at
lunchtime with her father before having her siesta for three hours.
Yumi’s bigger circle includes cousin Hannah’s parents, her auntie Rachel and Uncle
Dexter, Rygen’s mom, and maternal grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. Jessie Balisua who are
currently serving as pastors at Calvary Wesleyan Church in Sison, Pangasinan.
