1. ENTREPRENEUR:
Derived from the French word “Enterprendre” means “to
undertake”
According to Evans, “Entrepreneurs are persons who initiate,
organize manage and control the affairs of a business unit that
combines the factors of production to supply goods and services
whether the business pertains to agriculture, industry, trade and
profession”
ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Dr. J. E.Stepanek writes that “entrepreneurship” is the capacity to
take risk, ability to organize and desire to diversify and make
innovations in the enterprise”.

According to I.L.O report (1980) “Women are 50% of the world’s
population do the 2/3 rd of the world’s work hours, produce half of the
world’s food supply, receive 10% of the world’s income and own less then
1% of the world property. All because of an accident of birth Now
economically women have been making progress.
“WOMEN AND DEVELOPMENT” for the first time since the inception of
Five year plan in 1951.
3. WOMEN AND BUSINESS
Most traditional occupation open to women generally on the
basis of their castes
A section of urban women have emerged as potential
entrepreneurs and ultimately established themselves as
independent entrepreneurs
Over the last few decades, only a few women have come forward
to establish their own enterprises. More recently, a new trend has
emerged where women are venturing as entrepreneurs and
contributing to the economic development.
Many factors like urbanization, technical progress, women
education etc., have profoundly changed the traditional
conditions even in a developing country like India pushing
women to establish and manage organized industries and take
up challenging ventures
4. WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP
According to Government of India, a woman entrepreneur is defined as "an
enterprise owned and controlled by a woman and having a minimum financial
interest of 51% of the capital and giving at least 51% of employment generated
in the enterprise to women.
Two decades ago, the woman entrepreneur was a species almost unheard of,
both policy-wise and in practice.
Industrial Policy resolution of 1978 which recognized the women
entrepreneurs as a special group needing assistance and support.
During 1975-85 International Conference of Women Entrepreneurs held at
Delhi in 1984
In about two decades time, women entrepreneurs not only entered business in
a small way but ventured into starting and managing large enterprises on
professional lines and working hard to sustain and survive in the competing
environment.
shifting from 3 Ps to become assertive and empowered entrepreneurs,
involving in competitive and productive economic activities.
Women entrepreneurs, manufacturing solar coopers in Gujarat, small
foundries in Maharashtra and T.V capacitors in Orissa, have proved beyond
doubt that given the opportunities, they can surpass their male counterparts.

DISTRICT
9. NEED FOR THE STUDY
In a developing country like India, research in women in
business has been woefully inadequate comparing to that
of men.
There is a considerable gap and need for further research in
this area.
In order to gain a deep understanding and insight into this
relatively recent phenomenon of women entrepreneurship,
this research study is taken up in Krishna district.
It would be hope that this study will help business
promoters, academicians and the potential and existing
women entrepreneurs.
10. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
Examine the present status of women entrepreneurs
in Krishna district
To explore the problems of women entrepreneurs.
11. SCOPE OF THE STUDY
This study was carried out in the Krishna District only.
The business units in which the women were the owner -
managers or the women who had management control
were considered as women entrepreneurs
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
The study is based on secondary data which is collected
from the published reports of MSME, NABARD, SSI and
DIC of Krishna district and also Census Surveys,
newspapers, journals, websites,

If every citizen works with such an attitude towards
respecting the important position occupied by women in
society and understanding their vital role in the modern
business field too, then very soon we can pre-estimate our
chances of out beating our own conservative and rigid
thought process which is the biggest barrier in our
country’s development process. We can promise ourselves
and make a sincere commitment of contributing to the
field of women entrepreneurship at individual level which
un-doubtedly bring drastic positive change in growth and
development of women entrepreneurship at country and
even at a global level.
