2. A MAGAZINE ADVERT I LIKE
The colour scheme is
very effective as the
black background at
the bottom of the
advert allows the text
to reflect of it and be
visible. The yellowy
colour also represent
lighting which is the
name of the song too
‘Lights’. The black
background could
represent the night sky
or the unknown and
the yellow representing
the lights or a
comforting source. A
lyric from the song is
‘you shine it when im
alone’ which connotes
this point.
I really like the main
image as it stands
out. The close up
allows the audience to
capture Ellie
Goulding’s emotions.
Not only the this effect
on the picture relates
to the song which it is
advertising ‘Lights’
this means that image
on its own could
promote the song.

4. MY IDEA
In the previous slide you can see I have drawn up my idea and then
annotated my choices. There is a list of potential colour schemes
however I feel purple and white would be a great colour to use. I have
been playing around with photos I have taken for my digipak on
Photoshop and have found a great saturation that looks really good on
my photos. This turns the background of my picture a faded purple
colour which looks nice. I have also found a font called ‘birth of a hero’
that I plan to use of both my magazine advert and digipak (as seen
below). Like the Ellie Goulding poster on my previous slide the bottom of
the poster becomes a block colour. I will be doing the same but with a
purple colour. This is so that the text is able to receive the same attention
as the picture as it includes important information like the date of release
and also reviews from relevant sources.

5. MY IDEA
The main image is also a very important element of the poster. I will be using a
midshot/close up of Hannah looking serious and straight into the camera. Also I
plan to darken a bit of her face to create mystery. Hannah looking straight into
the camera will mean her eyes will connect with the audiences eyes, this will
make the audience feel like the artist is looking straight at them and intrigue
them into watching the music video. Also the darkened part of her face will
make the audience want to understand the mysterious look and therefore make
them watch the music video. In the post the image will also contain a bit of
Hannah’s burgundy beanie hat that she wears in the music video. This is so that
they audience can connect the music video with the poster or visa versa.
