2. ARTIST STYLING
I am going to style my artists in a way that they reflect multiple styles. I am doing
this as I feel it will make my video interesting and also pleasing to the viewers as
then more of the audience will be able to relate to the stars of my music video
through the clothing that they wear. (Costume planning)
I will also use hair and makeup as a way to style my actors as a way to please
and attract the audience. I plan to use a few different hair styles, this includes:
Wavey/Curly hair – which can be achieve by styling wands
Straight hair – achieved by straighteners
Hair tied up – either in a pony tail or a messy bun which can be achieved via
a ‘doughnut hair accessory’.
3. ARTIST STYLING
Curly/Wavey hair and also messy up-do’s illustrate the lack of someone trying to
perfect the hair, further illustrating they don’t care about how they look. This will amplify
the lyrics of the song ‘I don’t care’, following Andrew Goodwins theory of the visuals
matching the lyrics of a song.
In reference to makeup, I will using it to either show a ‘every day’ style to my audience, with
my actors wearing light make up, and then on the other hand, when my actors are getting
ready to go to a music festival, or in close ups of the chorus being sung I will be showing
them applying the make-up more obviously, for example I will capture the girls applying
lipstick/lipgloss. Lipstick is often used to make the lips more prominent, so will make the
chorus of the song ‘I don’t care, I love it’ which is also the main message of the song stand
out, making it more memorable to the audience. Make up is worn more obviously when
going out to parties/clubs/festivals specifically by females, so in turn portraying a sense of
normality which the audience again will be able to relate to.
4. COSTUME PLANNING
My actors will be wearing a range of different costumes throughout the video. I
feel that this is important as it shows that thought has gone into the music video
and also the continuous change will stop the audience from switching off and
feeling bored as there is always something different to look at.
Clothing includes:
• Denim shorts/patterned shorts
• Jeans/chinos/long trousers
• Over sized tops/tops
• Patterned/coloured tops
• Flat shoes: converse/vans/dolly shoes/trainers
5. COSTUME PLANNING
Items of clothing such as denim shorts, flat shoes and colourful and patterned tops
all have connotations of summer and can often be seen being worn at music
festivals. As my song has sounds of dance music in it and the actual song is often
played in clubs and gigs and has been played throughout the summer of 2013 I
feel it is important to reflect this in my actors costumes. Bright colours and patterns
will also catch the audiences eye and make them as interested in the music video
as the can possibly be.
