Go For Radio Repair Or Get A New One
1. Go For Radio Repair Or Get A New One
A two-way radio is a device which transmits and receives voice signals through the air. They work
somewhat like a telephone, but since they do not require a central network they can be used
anywhere! With two way radios, two or more people can have a discussion no matter where they are
-- sometimes while they are miles apart! Another common name for a two-way radio is a "walkie
talkie".
The relationship between John McClane and Al Powell adds some sentimentality to the storyline
which, I believe, strengthens the movie as a whole. For most of the movie, McClane and Powell
communicate only through two way radio-way radios. Powell motivates McClane when he begins to
have doubts about whether he'll survive. One particular scene happens near the end of the film when
McClane asks Powell to find his wife and tell her that he's sorry for being such a jerk. Powell
responds by saying, "You can tell her that yourself. You just watch your ass, and you'll make it out of
there." This is, I think, the strongest scene in the whole movie.
The following day, the radio earpiece took my father off the critical list and moved him to a regular
room. I was still in shock with the news that Robert was dead.
Where did the word "420" come from? There are many urban legends concerning the origin of 420.
Some have said it is for teatime in Holland. Others have claimed it to be a radio code for the police
to respond to pot smoking in progress. There is no such code in any state in America. The closest
420 comes to a security stuff code is a misdemeanor in California of misuse of public lands. Hitler's
birthday happens to be on 4/20, but it is doubtful that the true origin of peaceful hippies smoking pot
on 4:20 happens to come from the date of a mass murders birthday. 4:20 originated as a time rather
than a date.
We went out to her car and jumped into the front seat, we laughed and talked and it was nice to be
alone together. We were so very much at ease with each other; we were two kids who finally got the
chance to go out together! Our first kisses in her car told us both that we were skipping the all night
party to have our own private one.
2. When choosing a channel, privacy and range should be your primary concerns. If you are using a
FRS only channel walkie talkie because of government regulations your radio will only broadcast at
a maximum of watts of power. This wattage will typically get you between half a mile, and one mile
of range. If using a GMRS channel, you can get the maximum output power and range out of your
two-way radio. However, if you are using a GMRS channel, you are required by the FCC to purchase
a license to operate on those frequencies.
Knowing the types of questions you will face at the oral board is key; your key to preparation, and
your key to pitching yourself to the board. One of the most asked about questions are the scenario
questions. Scenario questions are somewhat self-explanatory, and they give the interviewee a
situation with a tough decision at the conclusion. They will pit the interviewee against departmental
norms, ethics, peer pressure, the law, and personal feelings. "Between a rock and a hard place,"
would be the best metaphor. These questions don't stop there. You will be challenged on your
answer.
When you are at your party, be sure that you and "Beth" flash your wanted posters around to
friends. You will get a good laugh, and if your friend is a good sport, you may be able to hook him up
in the handcuffs and get another friend to "sign his bond' by putting up a drink or two!
