abandoned or are in hidden dark places, where no one is.
The filming is usually done at night time, however it can be

dark and creepy. Every horror film either has black clothes or black rooms in.
Where as the colour white is associated with supernatural horror film. The
colour white is seen as pure and innocent, but is used in horror to contrast
this dark evil colours and to add affect.
Props- This is key in horror as its how the main parts
of the horror is carried out. It also is the main way of
identifying who the villains are. This is with
costumes, machetes, chainsaws, knifes, ropes, tape
and many other gruesome things.
Lighting- This is essential in a good horror the most
common lighting is dark, but sometimes bright white
lighting is good for scenes where the villain is cutting
the Vitim up. Dark shadows is used a lot in horrors this
is with unfamiliar shapes.
4. Iconography of paranormal horror films e.g. paranormal activity have
iconography in such as ghostly symbols, dark places, and unusual things
happening such as doors slamming and swinging lights and haunted
houses.
Other conventions try to frighten the audience by jumpy scenes or things
falling of tables or doors closing on their own. Another way in which they
scare them is by using the lightening from the candle to flicker, when a
ghost passes it. Symbols are also very common in paranormal horror.
Filming, in paranormal horrors, they usually have ‘home video footage’
this is to add to the affect. It also really helps the audience to connect the
audience to the film as they have probably filmed in the past with their
children or friends. It also creates the affect that they are helpless and
only the outside world can see what is going on.
