4. Why + How + Who?
• WHY??
• Why only free events?
• Match Making for enthusiastic event organisers &
appreciative audience
• Filling a void
• Providing a comprehensive service
• How is information gathered?
• 80% Search
• 20% Delivered
• Who is it for?
• Subscriber Demographics
• Event Organisers
5. Open Data?
• …is a given in Tourism Sector.
• But: Come here to me! or Sort yourself out!
• Existing “EPGs” are extremely limited
• Patchy self-submission
• “Not fully open” is a business opportunity
• For working “EPG” Common Data Format AND
Human control layer required
• Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) is
• Man in the middle
• Data Gatherer
• Filter/Checker/BS Cleaner
• Translator / Re-writer
• Re-formater
• Reviewer
• EPG Compiler
6. Can Open Data work?
• MAYBE! (for events)
• Requires:
» new thinking
» responsible users
» a lot of discipline
» human quality control (Is that the idea of Open Data?)
• Open Data works well for Facts and Static Info
• It does not work well for Marketing
7. How to publicise your event?
Event Organiser:
Best thing since
sliced bread!
Everybody else:
There is more
than sliced
bread!
8. RELEVANT information required!
• Make it easy for the editor!
• Consider your audience!
• Provide ALL relevant info
(Where/When/What/Audience/How Much/Link)
• Provide short AND longer description
• In 3rd person plural (They) not in 1st person plural (We)
• Have all relevant info in body of mail
• Include attachment as well, not instead
• No Powerpoint attachments
• No HUGE attachments
• No JPG-only mails
• Not just a link
• No flimsy information
• No over-the-top descriptions (Watch the Curator!)
9. Good vs Bad Data
+ National Museum
- Anon Pub in City Centre
+ Music Library (Central Library)
- Business Library (Central
Library)
- Curators are special
- “Why not join us….”
