A whole new survey conducted by the Recreational Fishing and Boating Foundation (RBFF) along
with the National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI) implies that when it comes to Father's Day, the gift of
quality family time surpasses some other.
An overwhelming 92.1 percent of respondents said it will be preferable to spend time together doing
something like boating and fishing on Father's Day than it will be to present a present. From the
same survey, approximately 1 / 2 of the respondents claimed that fishing or boating was the most
effective way for fathers to spend time using their children on Father's Day.
"Forum Fishing and boating are great activities for all ages so the whole family can have and
participate fun together," said Bruce Matthews, President and CEO of RBFF. "On the liquid, you can
find no distractions -- nothing to interrupt the product quality family time. This Father's Day, skip
the neckties and cologne and offer Dad a great gift he is able to really use -- time for you to
reconnect regarding his family in the water."
Previous RBFF surveys found out that fishing and boating ranked as the number one leisure activity
for spending time with family. Additionally, surveys showed that 87 percent of Americans believe
fishing and boating carries a positive effect on family relationships.
"Being on water with the child is not only about 'reeling within the big one' -- it's about spending
quality time together and creating memories that keep going for a lifetime," said National
Fatherhood Initiative (NFI) President Roland C. Warren. "boating and Fishing are easy methods for a
parent to hang out with his kids, and anyone who's ever gone fishing making use of their Dad
remembers it well."
RBFF interviewed 1,010 randomly selected adults nationwide on the phone between May 23 and 27,
2003. The information were weighted to mirror the demographic make-up of the adult U.S.
population. The poll carries a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.
When it was preferable to offer a gift on Father's Day or perhaps to invest some time together doing
a task like http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/fishing.htm boating and fishing, respondents were
asked.
Responses included:
* Spend time together 92.1%
* Provide a gift 5.3%
Respondents were also asked to select a task which they feel is the ideal way for fathers to pay
quality time with their children on Father's Day. In all, just over half (51%) of the respondents said
fishing or boating will be the best method for fathers to spend quality time using their children,
accompanied by going to a museum (16.3%), seeing the movies (16.2%), and golfing (6.7%).
RBFF's Water Works Wonders(TM) initiative was recently recognized by NFI by using a 2002
Fatherhood Award because of its depiction of wholesome family quality and fun time spent together.
The Fatherhood Awards are presented annually topeople, and organizations who make a substantial
contribution to strengthening involved, responsible, and committed fatherhood. The campaign's
public service website, includes a Father's Day Gift Guide with links and information on great
fishing- and boating-related gifts as well as facts about which place to go and ways to get going
boating and fishing -- everything a family group should have a fun-filled Father's Day about the
water.
NFI, the premier fatherhood organization in america, is a non- partisan, non-sectarian civic initiative
attempting to promote involved, responsible, and committed fatherhood in just about every sector of
society as well as end father absence.
RBFF is actually a non-profit organization whose mission is to increase participation in recreational
angling and boating and thereby increase public awareness and appreciation of the demand
forconserving and protecting, and restoring this nation's aquatic natural resources. To find out
