If statistics are to be believed, thousands of people are diagnosed with esophageal cancer each year. Unfortunately, the survival rate in such a case is very low, around 10 percent only. This is because; by the time the patient gets to know about his/her disease, the cancerous tumors have already grown to the point of inoperability. Though consumption of tobacco increases the risk of developing esophageal cancer, there are various other contributing factors like excessive alcohol consumption, lye ingestion, Gastroesophageal reflux disease.
