Understand the Shaking even as it picks up steam in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

1. Responsible for Work We Might Have Done (Straightthree angels mustalways be preached).
We are in the shaking time,the time when everything that can be shaken will be shaken.The Lord will not excuse those who kn ow the
truth if they do not in word and deed obey His commands.Ifwe make no effort to win souls to Christwe shall be held responsible for
the work we mighthave done, but did not do because ofour spiritual indolence.Those who belong to the Lord's kingdom mustw ork
earnestlyfor the saving of souls.They mustdo their part to bind up the law and seal it among the disciples.{CEv 25.3}
Despite these corruptions - A New Denomination is NotNeeded
You will take passages in the Testimonies thatspeak ofthe close of probation,of the shaking among God's people,and you wi ll talk
of a coming outfrom this people of a purer,holier people that will arise.Now all this pleases the enemy.. . . Shou ld manyacceptthe
views you advance, and talk and act upon them, we would see one of the greatestfanatical excitements that has ever been witn essed
among Seventh-day Adventists. This is what Satan wants.--1SM 179 (1890). {LDE 51.1}
The Lord has not given you a message to call the Seventh-day Adventists Babylon, and to call the people of God to come outof her.
All the reasons you maypresentcannothave weightwith me on this subject,because the Lord has given me decided lightthat is
opposed to such a message.. . . {LDE 51.2}
I know that the Lord loves His church.It is not to be disorganized or broken up into independentatoms.There is not the lea st
consistencyin this;there is not the leastevidence that such a thing will be.--2SM 63, 68, 69 (1893). {LDE 51.3} I tell you, my brethren,
the Lord has an organized body through whom He will work. . . . {LDE 51.4}
There is no need to doubt, to be fearful that the work will not succeed.God is at the head of the work, and He will set everything in
order. If matters need adjusting atthe head of the work God will attend to that, and work to right every wrong.Let us have faith that God
is going to carry the noble ship which bears the people ofGod safely into port.--2SM 390 (1892). {LDE 52.1}
Has God no living church? He has a church, but it is the church militant,notthe church triumphant.We are sorry that there are
defective members,thatthere are tares amid the wheat. . . . Although there are evils existing in the church, and will be until the end of
the world,the church in these lastdays is to be the lightof the world that is polluted and demoralized by sin.The church, enfeebled and
defective, needing to be reproved, warned,and counseled,is the only objectupon earth upon which Christbestows His supreme
regard.--TM 45, 49 (1893). {LDE 52.2}
The bulwarks ofSatan will never triumph.Victory will attend the third angel's message.As the Captain of the Lord's hostto re down
the walls ofJericho, so will the Lord's commandment-keeping people triumph,and all opposing elements be defeated.--TM 410 (1898).
{LDE 52.3} What we wantnow is a reorganization.We want to begin at the foundation,and to build upon a different principle.. . . {LDE

What then does it take to remain within? What should we be doing on the walls of Zion?
1. Know that divisions will come within the church.
Divisions will come in the church.Two parties will be developed.The wheat and tares grow up together for the harvest.--2SM 114
(1896). {LDE 172.3}
There will be a shaking ofthe sieve. The chaff mustin time be separated from the wheat. Because iniquityabounds,the love of
many waxes cold. It is the very time when the genuine will be the strongest.--Letter 46,1887. {LDE 173.1}
The historyof the rebellion ofDathan and Abiram is being repeated,and will be repeated till the close of time.Who will be on the
Lord's side? Who will be deceived, and in their turn become deceivers?--Letter 15,1892. {LDE 173.2}
“Yea, and all that will live godly in ChristJesus shall suffer persecution.Butevil men and seducers shall waxworse and wo rse,
deceiving,and being deceived” (2 Tim 3: 12, 13).
The Lord is soon to come.There mustbe a refining,winnowing process in every church,for there are among us wicked men who do
not love the truth or honor God.--RH March 19, 1895. {LDE 173.3}

2. Know that Persecution Cleanses the Church
Prosperitymultiplies a mass ofprofessors.Adversity purges them outof the church.--4T89 (1876). {LDE 173.5} The time is not
far distantwhen the test will come to every soul.The mark of the beastwill be urged upon us.Those who have step by step yielded to
worldly demands and conformed to worldlycustoms will notfind it a hard matter to yield to the powers that be, rather than subject
themselves to derision,insult,threatened imprisonment,and death.The contestis between the commandments ofGod and the
commandments ofmen.In this time the gold will be separated from the dross in the church.--5T81 (1882). {LDE 173.6}
When the law of God is made void the church will be sifted by fiery trials,and a larger proportion than we now anticipate wi ll give
heed to seducing spirits and doctrines ofdevils.--2SM368 (1891). {LDE 174.2}
3. Know that Superficial Believers Will Renounce the Faith

2. The work which the church has failed to do in a time of peace and prosperityshe will have to do in a terrible crisis under m ost
discouraging,forbidding circumstances.The warnings thatworldlyconformityhas silenced or withheld mustbe given under the fiercest
opposition from enemies ofthe faith. And at that time the superficial,conservative class,whose influence has steadilyreta rded the
progress ofthe work, will renounce the faith.--5T 463 (1885). {LDE 174.3}
4. Know that the Straight TestimonyProduces a Shaking
The Lord calls for a renewal of the straighttestimonyborne in years past.He calls for a renewal of spiritual life.The spi ritual
energies ofHis people have long been torpid, but there is to be a resurrection from apparentdeath.By prayer and confession ofsin we
mustclear the King's highway.--8T297 (1904). {LDE 176.1}
5. Know that False Doctrines Draw Some Away
Not having received the love of the truth, they will be taken in the delusions ofthe enemy; they will give heed to seducing spirits and
doctrines ofdevils and will departfrom the faith.--6T 401 (1900). {LDE 177.2} The enemy will bring in false theories,such as the
doctrine that there is no sanctuary. This is one of the points on which there will be a departing from the faith. {LDE 177.3}
6. Be sure that a rejection of the Testimonies (Writings ofSis.White) Results in Apostasy
One thing is certain: Those Seventh-day Adventists who take their stand under Satan's banner will firstgive up their faith in the
warnings and reproofs contained in the Testimonies ofGod's Spirit.--3SM 84 (1903). {LDE 177.4}
The very lastdeception ofSatan will be to make of none effect the testimonyof the Spirit of God. "Where there is no vision,the
people perish"(Proverbs 29:18).Satan will work ingeniously,in differentways and through different agencies,to unsettle the
confidence of God's remnantpeople in the true testimony.--1SM48 (1890). {LDE 177.5}
It is Satan's plan to weaken the faith of God's people in the Testimonies.Next follows skepticism in regard to the vital poi nts of our
faith, the pillars ofour position,then doubtas to the Holy Scriptures,and then the downward march to perdition.When the Testimonies,
which were once believed,are doubted and given up, Satan knows the deceived ones will not stop at this; and he redoubles his efforts
till he launches them into open rebellion,which becomes incurable and ends in destruction.--4T211. {LDE 178.2}
7. Know that Many Church leaders and unsanctified ministers are going to leave the faith
Many a star that we have admired for its brilliance will then go out in darkness.--PK 188 (c. 1914). {LDE 178.3}
Men whom He has greatly honored will,in the closing scenes ofthis earth's history,pattern after ancient Israel.. . . A de parture from
the great principles Christhas laid down in His teachings,a working outof human projects, using the Scriptures to justifya wrong
course of action under the perverse working of Lucifer, will confirm men in misunderstanding,and the truth that they need to keep them
from wrong practices will leak out of the soul like water from a leaky vessel.--13MR 379, 381 (1904). {LDE 178.4}
Many will show that they are not one with Christ,that they are not dead to the world, that they may live with Him;and frequ entwill be
the apostasies ofmen who have occupied responsible positions.--RH Sept.11,1888. {LDE 179.1}
The great issue so near athand [enforcementof Sunday laws]will weed outthose whom God has notappointed and He will have a
pure, true, sanctified ministryprepared for the latter rain.--3SM 385 (1886). {LDE 179.2} Ministers and doctors may departfrom the
faith, as the Word declares they will, and as the messages thatGod has given His servantdeclare they will.--7MR 192 (1906). {LDE
179.5} The shaking ofGod blows awaymultitudes like dry leaves.--4T89 (1876). {LDE 180.1}
8. The shaking is going to be so terrible that the church will appear has though ithas fallen.
The church may appear as about to fall, but it does not fall. It remains,while the sinners in Zion will be sifted out--the chaff separated
from the precious wheat. This is a terrible ordeal,but nevertheless itmusttake place.--2SM 380 (1886). {LDE 180.5}
In Jamaica and the World
“Matters have been presented before me thathave filled my soul with keen anguish. I saw men linking up arm in arm with lawyers,
but God was not in their company. Having many ideas regarding the work,they go to the lawyers for help to carry out their pl ans.Iam
commissioned to sayto such that they are not moving under the inspiration ofthe Spirit of God.” [Ellen White Testimoni es 8,p.69,
Paragraph 2]

Many ministers and people are ‘unchurching’ themselves while theyare still in office.

3. The True High Priest--With Caiaphas the Jewish high priesthood ended.This proud,overbearing,wicked man proved his unworthiness
ever to have worn the garments ofthe high priest.He had neither capacity, nor authority from heaven, for doing the work. He had not
one ray of lightfrom heaven to show him whatthe work of the priestwas,or for what the office had been instituted.Such ministration
could make nothing perfect, for in itselfit was utterly corrupt. The priests were tyrannous and deceptive, and full of ambitious schemes.
The grace of God had noughtto do with this. {12MR 387.2}
Virtually Caiaphas was no high priest. He wore the priestly robes,buthe had no vital connection with God. He was uncircumcised in
heart. With the other priests he instructed the people to choose Barabbas instead ofChrist.They cried out for the crucifixi on of Christ
and, as representatives ofthe Jewish nation,placed themselves under the Roman jurisdiction,which theydespised,by saying,"We
have no king but Caesar."When they said this,they unchurched themselves. {12MR 388.1}
When we look to lawyers and world leaders as our protectors we are echoing the same sentiments.Thus by linking up with
the world we “unchurch” ourselves. Those within the body become “unchurched” if we support the union and this we may
do by attending various rallies and serving on the different boards that they form having a combination of SDA’s and
non-SDA’s. For right now, let us lift up our voices and pen against it as did John the Baptist against the adulterous
union between Herod and Herodias.
It is righteousness thatexalts a nation.A disregard for the law of God will be the ruin of the religious world in the lastdays of this
earth's history. Everything is becoming unsettled,butGod's Word is changeless and sure.It is His voice, speaking to us in admonitions,
entreaties,and warnings. Nothing can separate a living Christian from a living God. {12MR 388.2}
Even though leaders may say if you do not support us in this or that you are an ‘offshoot’ understand that the term
fittingly apply to themselves who have strayed from the word of God.
“Romanists have persisted in bringing againstProtestants the charge of heresyand willful separation from the true church. But these
accusations applyrather to themselves.Theyare the ones who laid down the banner of Christand departed from "the faith which was
once delivered unto the saints."Jude 3. {Ellen White, Great Controversy, 51}
So why should notthe church seek the supportofthe state?
"...the only position the State can take, and have the approval of God, is to guard the rights of every individual,permitting no opp ression
to come upon any one because ofreligious belief."{Ellen White ST February 27, 1912}
The the church is leading the state into a wrong union.And the church will suffer for this in the plagues from God.
And he cried mightilywith a strong voice, saying,Babylon the great is fallen,is fallen,and is become the habitation of de vils,and the
hold of every foul spirit,and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her
fornication,and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her,and the merchants ofthe earth are waxed rich th rough the
abundance ofher delicacies.And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come outof her, my people, that ye be not partakers of
her sins,and thatye receive not of her plagues. Rev18:2-4
After reading thatwhat we see is a “woman” in prophecy. She has committed fornication with the Kings of the earth. What does this
fornication signify? Well, normallya church in prophecyis signified by a woman.The Kings of the earth signify“state or ci vil power”. A
woman fornicating with the Kings of the earth is a church and state union.
“Therefore as the church is subjectunto Christ,so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.” Eph 5:24 The church is the
lamb’s bride. The Kings ofthe earth representState power upon which the church is not to rely. So the words of James and Isaiah are
very applicable to this currentmove that our leaders are making.
Ye adulterers and adulteresses,know ye not that the friendship ofthe world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of
the world is the enemyof God. (James 4:4).
Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses,and trustin chariots,because they are many; and in horsemen ,
because they are very strong;but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel,neither seek the LORD!
Yet he also is wise,and will bring evil, and will not call back his words:butwill arise againstthe house ofthe evildoers,and againstthe
help of them that work iniquity. Now the Egyptians are men,and not God; and their horses flesh,and notspirit.When the LORD s hall
stretch out his hand,both he that helpeth shall fall,and he that is holpen shall fall down,and they all shall fail togethe r.(Isa 31:1-3)

4. God has said “the Egyptians are men” so you have put your trust in men or horses or armies or secular power rather than
God. This is a violation of the fourth commandment which is to “rest”. The Seventh-day Sabbath is a sign of one
creation (Exodus 20:11) and of sanctification (Exekiel 20:20). So those who trust in any early power for their
sustenance, safety and support are departing for the spirit of the Sabbath and if they don’t change will soon give up the
Sabbath all together.
Is 31:3 – the Egyptians are men/////// Luke 10: 3 Beware of men
Those who are broughtin controversy with the enemies oftruth have to meet,not only men,but Satan and his agents.Letthem
remember the Saviour's words,"Behold,I send you forth as lambs among wolves."Luke 10:3.Let them restin the love of God, and the
spiritwill be kept calm,even under personal abuse.The Lord will clothe them with a divine panoply. His Holy Spiritwill in fluence the
mind and heart, so that their voices shall notcatch the notes of the baying of the wolves. {DA 353.3}
Continuing His instruction to His disciples,Jesus said, "Beware of men." They were not to put implicitconfidence in those who
knew not God, and open to them their counsels;for this would give Satan's agents an advantage . Man's inventions often counterwork
God's plans.Those who build the temple of the Lord are to build according to the pattern shown in the mount,--the divine similitude.
God is dishonored and the gospel is betrayed when His servants depend on the counsel ofmen who are not under the guidance ofthe
Holy Spirit. Worldly wisdom is foolishness with God.Those who rely upon it will surely err. {DA 354.1}
"They will deliver you up to councils,. . . yea and before governors and kings shall ye be brought for My sake,for a testimonyto
them and to the Gentiles."Matthew 10:17, 18, R. V. Persecution will spread the light. …
So bitter would be the enmity to the gospel thateven the tenderestearthlyties would be disregarded.The disciples ofChris twould
be betrayed to death by the members oftheir own households."Ye shall be hated of all men for My name's sake,"He added;"bu the
that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved."Mark 13:13. But He bade them not to expose themselves unnecessar ilyto
persecution.He Himselfoften left one field of labor for another,in order to escape from those who were seeking His life.When He was
rejected at Nazareth, and His own townsmen tried to kill Him,He went down to Capernaum,and there the people were astonished at
His teaching;"for His word was with power."Luke 4:32. So His servants were not to be discouraged bypersecution,butto see k a place
where they could still labor for the salvation of souls. {DA 355.3}
The servantis not above his master.The Prince of heaven was called Beelzebub,and His disciples will be misrepresented in like
manner.But whatever the danger,Christ's followers mustavow their principles.Theyshould scorn concealment.They cannotre main
uncommitted until assured ofsafety in confessing the truth.They are setas watchmen,to warn men of their peril. The truth received
from Christmustbe imparted to all, freely and openly. Jesus said,"WhatI tell you in darkness,thatspeak ye in light: and what ye hear
in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops." {DA 355.4}
Jesus Himself never purchased peace by compromise. His heartoverflowed with love for the whole human race,but He was
never indulgentto their sins.He was too much their friend to remain silentwhile theywere pursuing a course that would ruin their
souls,--the souls He had purchased with His own blood.He labored thatman should be true to himself,true to his higher and eternal
interest.The servants of Christare called to the same work,and they should beware lest,in seeking to prevent discord,they surrender
the truth. They are to "follow after the things which make for peace"(Romans 14:19);butreal peace can never be secured by
compromising principle.And no man can be true to principle withoutexciting opposition.A Christianitythat is spiritual will be opposed
by the children of disobedience.ButJesus bade His disciples,"Fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul."
Those who are true to God need not fear the power of men nor the enmity of Satan. In Christtheir eternal life is secure.Their only fear
should be lestthey surrender the truth, and thus betray the trust with which God has honored them. {DA 356.1}
It is Satan's work to fill men's hearts with doubt.…. Not even a sparrow falls to the ground withoutthe Father's notice. Satan's
hatred againstGod leads him to hate every objectof the Saviour's care. He seeks to mar the handiwork ofGod, and he delights in
destroying even the dumb creatures. It is only through God's protecting care that the birds are preserved to gladden us with their songs
of joy. But He does not forget even the sparrows."Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows." {DA 356.4}
Jesus continues:As you confess Me before men,so I will confess you before God and the holy angels.You are to be My witnesses
upon earth, channels through which My grace can flow for the healing ofthe world. So I will be your representative in heaven . The
Father beholds notyour faulty character, but He sees you as clothed in My perfection.I am the medium through which Heaven's
blessings shall come to you. And everyone who confesses Me by sharing My sacrifice for the lostshall be confessed as a sharer in the
glory and joy of the redeemed. {DA 357.1}
"Let the PRINCIPLE ONCE BE ESTABLISHED in the United States that the CHURCH MAY EMPLOY or control the POWER OF THE
STATE; that RELIGIOUS OBSERVANCES MAY BE ENFORCED BY SECULAR LAWS...and the TRIUMPH OF ROME IN THIS
COUNTRY IS ASSURED." {Ellen White Great Controversy 581}.
Notice that Rome is noton the forefront in the movementhappening in the Western World – The USA, Jamaica,Dominican Republic
and Trinidad (non-Catholic countries) where the union ofchurch and state is taking place. It is the Protestants.But with movements of
lately the SDA church is getting more prominent.In many circles acting as a catalyst to let the Protestants take bolder step s.

5. "To protect liberty of conscience is the duty of the state, and this is the limitof its authority in matters ofreligion. Every secular
governmentthat attempts to regulate or enforce religious observances bycivil authority is sacrificing the very principle fo r which the
evangelical Christians [ofSixteenth Century Germany] so nobly struggled.{Ellen White Great Controversy 201}
"The Constitution provides that'Congress shall make no law respecting an establishmentofreligion,or prohibiting the free exercise
thereof'..." {Ellen White GC 442}
A message from the Letter to the Church of Philadelphia in Revelation 3,should cause Adventistto tremble and run to Jesus in humble
confession.Rev3:9 Behold,I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews,and are not, but do lie;behold,I will
make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.
“Jews,and are not” – Paul writing to Christians in 1st
century AD correlated Christians to Spiritual Jews.“For he is not a Jew, which is
one outwardly; neither is that circumcision,which is outward in the flesh:But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circu mcision is that
of the heart, in the spirit,and not in the letter; whose praise is notofmen,but of God.” (Rom 2:28, 29).
So now that God’s people are Adventists for others would rejected the first angels message and is notfallen.
The whole chapter [of Revelation 18] shows thatBabylon that has fallen is the churches who will notreceive the messages ofwarning
the Lord has given in the first, second,and third angels'messages.They refused the truth and accepted a lie. {2SM 68.1}
But Sis White connects this prophecy to professed Adventists.
“You think, that those who worship before the saint’s feet,(Rev 3:9), will at lastbe saved.Here I mustdiffer with you; fo r God shewed
me that this class were professed Adventists,who had fallen away, and “crucified to themselves the Son of God afresh ,and put Him to
an open shame.” And in the “hour of temptation,” which is yet to come,to show out every one’s true character,they will know that they
are forever lost; and overwhelmed with anguish ofspirit,they will bow at the saint’s feet.” (Ellen White, A Word to the Little Flock, page
12)
“I saw that God has honestchildren among the nominal Adventists and the fallen churches,and before the plagues shall be pou red out,
ministers and people will be called outfrom these churches and will gladlyreceive the truth. Satan knows this;and before the loud cry
of the third angel is given, he raises an excitementin these religious bodies,thatthose who have rejected the truth may th ink that God
is with them. He hopes to deceive the honestand lead them to think that God is still working for the churches.But the lightwill shine,
and all who are honestwill leave the fallen churches,and take their stand with the remnant.“{Ellen White Early Writings 26 1}
Eze 9:4 And the LORD said unto him,Go through the midstofthe city, through the midstofJerusalem,and seta mark upon the
foreheads ofthe men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations thatbe done in the midstthereof. “And after these things I saw
another angel come down from heaven, having greatpower; and the earth was lightened with his glory. And he cried mightilywith a
strong voice, saying, Babylon the greatis fallen, is fallen…(Rev18:1, 2)
We are not to be whispering in a corner,keeping it under our breath. And we mustknow whatthese abominations are,we mustnotbe
involved the abomination either.“And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself,even as he is pure.” (1John 3:3).

proved. They will be placed in circumstances where they will be forced to bear witness for the truth. Many will be called to speak before
councils and in courts of justice,perhaps separatelyand alone.” [Christian Service,page 158]
The governmentwould notlike us if we were telling them the truth. But we have hid our lights under a bushel. Butnow the call is to trim
our lamps tlightthe path for the arrival of the Bridegroom.
“As the storm approaches,a large class who have professed faith in the third message,buthave not been sanctified through i t,
abandon their position,and take refuge under the banner of the powers ofdarkness.By uniting with the world and partaking of its spirit,
they come to view matters in nearly the same light;and when the test is brought,they are prepared to choose the easy, p opular side.
Men of talent and pleasing address,who once rejoiced in the truth, employtheir powers to deceive and mislead souls.They be come
the mostbitter enemies oftheir former brethren. When Sabbath-keepers are broughtbefore the courts to answer for their faith, these
apostates are the mostefficientagents of Satan to misrepresentand accuse them,and by false reports and insinuations to stir up the
rulers againstthem.”{Ellen White SP 426}

6. I saw that the two-horned beasthad a dragon's mouth,and that his power was in his head,and that the decree would go out of his
mouth.Then I saw the Mother of Harlots;that the mother was not the daughters,butseparate and distinctfrom them.She has had her
day, and it is past,and her daughters,the Protestantsects,were the next to come on the stage and act out the same mind thatthe
mother had when she persecuted the saints.Isaw that as the mother has been declining in power,the daughters had been growi ng,
and soon they will exercise the power once exercised by the mother. {SpM 1.4}
I saw the nominal church and nominal Adventists,like Judas,would betrayus to the Catholics to obtain their influence to come
againstthe truth. The saints then will be an obscure people, little known to the Catholics;but the churches and nominal Adventists who
know of our faith and customs (for they hated us on account of the Sabbath,for they could not refute it) will betray the sai nts and report
them to the Catholics as those who disregard the institutions ofthe people;that is,that they keep the Sabbath and disregard Sunday.
Then the Catholics bid the Protestants to go forward,and issue a decree thatall who will not observe the first day of the w eek,
instead ofthe seventh day, shall be slain.And the Catholics,whose numbers are large,will stand by the Protestants.The Catholics will
give their power to the image of the beast.And the Protestants will work as their mother worked before them to destroythe s aints.But
before their decree bring or bear fruit, the saints will be delivered by the Voice of God. Then I saw that Jesus'work in the sanctuarywill

Nominal Church and nominal Adventists will betray [faithful] to the Catholics.Notonly will Protestants return to Rome butm any
Adventists who will desire unity with Protestants.

What is on the horizon (behind the cloud)?
A day of great intellectual darkness has been shown to be favorable to the success ofthe papacy. It will yet be demonstrated thata day
of great intellectual lightis equallyfavorable for its success.In pastages,when men were withoutGod's word and withoutthe
knowledge ofthe truth, their eyes were blindfolded,and thousands were ensnared,notseeing the netspread for their feet. In this
generation there are many whose eyes become dazzled by the glare of human speculations,"science falselyso called;"they disc ern
not the net, and walk into it as readily as if blindfolded.God designed thatman's intellectual powers should be held as a g ift from his
Maker and should be employed in the service of truth and righteousness;butwhen pride and ambition are cherished,and men exalt
their own theories above the word of God, then intelligence can accomplish greater harm than ignorance.Thus the fal se science ofthe
presentday, which undermines faith in the Bible, will prove as successful in preparing the way for the acceptance of the pap acy, with its
pleasing forms,as did the withholding ofknowledge in opening the way for its aggrandizementin th e Dark Ages. {GC 572.3}
In the movements now in progress in the United States to secure for the institutions and usages ofthe church the supportof the
state, Protestants are following in the steps of papists.Nay,more,they are opening the door for the papacy to regain in Protestant
America the supremacywhich she has lostin the Old World.
How are Seventh-day Adventist ensnared?
The same privileges given to them by the state will be given to the majority.For these countries are demo cratic.Butwho is the
majority? The Catholic church and even more so that they are re-united with the Sunday-keeping Protestants. By the time this occurs,
it will be too late for the Adventists to extricate themselves from this compact.
We were told.
For years I have been given special lightthat we are not to center our work in the cities.The turmoil and confusion thatfill these citi es,
the conditions broughtaboutby the labor unions and the strikes,would prove a great hindrance to our work. Men are seeking to bring
those engaged in the different trades under bondage to certain unions.This is notGod's planning,butthe planning ofa powe r that we
should in no wise acknowledge.God's word is fulfilling;the wicked are binding themselves up in bundles readyto be burned. {CH

The trades unions and confederacies ofthe world are a snare.Keep out of them, and away from them,brethren. Have nothing to do
with them. Because ofthese unions and confederacies,itwill soon be very difficult for our institutions to carry on their work in the cities.

These unions are one of the signs ofthe lastdays. Men are binding up in bundles readyto be burned.They may be church
members,butwhile they belong to these unions,they cannotpossiblykeep the commandments ofGod; for to belong to these uni ons
means to disregard the entire Decalogue. "Thou shaltlove the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul,and with all thy
strength,and with all thy mind;and thy neighbor as thyself." These words sum up the whole duty of man.They mean the con secration
of the whole being,body, soul,and spirit,to God's service.How can men obey these words,and at the same time pledge thems elves to
supportthat which deprives their neighbors offreedom ofaction? And how can men obey these words,and form com binations thatrob
the poorer classes ofthe advantages which justlybelong to them,preventing them from buying or selling,exceptunder certai n

Unions ThatAre Formed or Shall Be Formed
Those who claim to be the children of God are in no case to bind up with the labor unions that are formed or that shall be formed.
This the Lord forbids.Cannotthose who study the prophecies see and understand whatis before us? --Letter 201,1902. {CL 12.1}
The wicked are being bound up in bundles,bound up in trusts,in unions,in confederacies.Letus have nothing to do with these
organizations.God is our Ruler,our Governor, and He calls us to come out from the world and be separate."Come outfrom amo ng
them,and be ye separate,saith the Lord,and touch not the unclean thing"[2 Corinthians 6:17].If we refuse to do this,if we continue to
link up with the world and to look at every matter from a worldlystandpoint,we shall become like the world.When worldlypo licy and

The apostle Paul declares that"all that will live godly in ChristJesus shall suffer persecution."Why is it, then, that persecution seems in
a great degree to slumber? The only reason is,that the church has conformed to the world's standard,and therefore awakens no
opposition.The religion which is currentin our day is not of the pure and holy character that marked the Christian faith in the days of
Christand His apostles.It is only because of the spirit of compromise with sin,because the greattruths of the Word of God are so
indifferently regarded,because there is so little vital godliness in the church, that Christianityis apparentlyso popular with the world.Let
there be a revival of faith and power of the early church, and the spiritof persecution will be revived, and the fires of persecution will be

God means thattesting truth shall be broughtto the front, and become a subjectof examination and discussion,even if it is through the
contemptplaced upon it. The minds ofthe people mustbe agitated.Every controversy, every reproach,every slander,will be God's
means ofprovoking inquiry, and awakening minds thatotherwise would slumber. --Testimonies, vol. 5, p. 453. {ChS 159.2}
Why should we jeopardize what our friends and brethren think of us? Who will sacrifice reputation that the gold of their
character might be revealed?
Unless the attention of the people is gained,all effort for them will be us eless.The Word of God cannotbe understood bythe
inattentive. They need a plain "Thus saith the Lord" to arresttheir attention. Let them see that their cases are tried and c ondemned by
the Bible,not by the lips of man;that they are arraigned at the bar of infinite justice,not before an earthly tribunal.When the plain,
cutting truth of the Bible is presented before them,it comes directlyacross long-cherished desires and confirmed habits.Theyare
convicted, and then it is that they speciallyneed your counsel,encouragement,and prayer. Many a precious soul balances for a time,
and then takes his position on the side of error, because he does nothave this personal effortat the righttime.--Historical Sketches,p.
